I used to have a desk lamp that reflected off my screen like a spotlight. Switching to a monitor light bar was the single biggest thing I did for my setup, and my eyes stopped burning within the first week.

Glasses alone didn't cut it for me. Adding a screen-level filter on top of everything else finally got rid of that ‘staring into the sun’ feeling I'd get around midnight.

Playing in total darkness was my first mistake. Your eyes constantly adjust between a bright screen and pitch-black surroundings. Adding soft ambient light behind and around my desk fixed that contrast problem overnight.

Nobody told me my monitor was at 100% brightness out of the box. Turning it down and calibrating properly did more for my eyes than any accessory I bought. Wish someone had mentioned this years ago.

Turns out my eye strain wasn't just about light. Sitting too close, looking down at my screen, and hunching forward all made it worse. Fixing my posture fixed half the problem.

Even with all the right gear, a 6-hour session still takes a toll. These are the things I reach for when I finally close out of a game and realize I forgot to blink for the last hour.
