I went through two cheap sets that bent after a single afternoon before landing on ones that hold up. My dad throws hard, so flimsy stakes weren't going to cut it.

The set stakes are fine at first, but after a season they wobble. I replaced mine and the difference was night and day. No more arguments about whether the stake moved.

Horseshoes started it, but now every visit turns into a full backyard tournament. These are the games that earned permanent spots in my garage.

My dad used to last maybe 45 minutes outside before his back started complaining. Adding real seating to the yard doubled our game time overnight.

Nobody plays their best horseshoes dehydrated. I learned that when my dad beat me 21-3 on a day I forgot to bring water outside. Never again.

The first time my dad and I were mid-match and it got too dark to see, we just stood there disappointed. That was the last time I let the sun decide when we stop.

We used to argue about the score every single game until I started writing it down. Now we argue about the rules instead, but at least the numbers are settled.
