That orange plastic tablecloth from the dollar store was depressing me every single year. Once I switched to actual fabric runners, the whole table looked like I planned it for weeks instead of twenty minutes.

Overhead lighting was killing the mood every Halloween dinner. The second I added actual candlelight the kids started whispering at the table like they were in a real haunted mansion.

Paper plates with cartoon ghosts were fine when the kids were toddlers. Now they're old enough to appreciate actual plates that make spaghetti look like something from a witch's kitchen.

Paper napkins kept falling off everyone's laps and ending up on the floor. Real cloth napkins with creepy little rings turned out to be the detail that made the whole table feel intentional.

Serving apple cider in regular glasses felt wrong once the rest of the table looked so good. These goblets made even water look like a potion and the kids started requesting refills just to use them.

Nobody knew where to sit and it always turned into a sibling argument. Place cards fixed the chaos AND gave the table that extra layer of detail that makes people think you spent way more time than you did.

The space between plates and bowls always looked empty and boring. Small scatter pieces filled those gaps and suddenly the table felt like a complete scene instead of dishes on a cloth.

Had the plates, had the candles, but the serving spoons and trivets were still my boring everyday ones. These last few pieces closed the gap between almost there and people actually gasping when they walked in.
