My old mattress had a dip in the middle shaped like my body and my pillows were basically flat pancakes. Fixing where I slept changed how I woke up — sounds obvious but I ignored it for way too long.

I used to stand in my kitchen staring at the wall for ten minutes before doing anything. Having coffee that's actually ready when my feet hit the floor eliminated that zombie phase entirely.

Turns out I was trying to wake up in a pitch-black cave every morning and wondering why my body refused to cooperate. Fixing the light situation was the single biggest change.

Standing under lukewarm water half-asleep wasn't doing anything for me. Switching to stuff that smells strong and feels tingly turned my shower into the thing that actually flips the switch from zombie to human.

Half my morning anxiety came from staring into my closet at 6:45am trying to figure out what to wear. Removing that decision made me ten minutes faster and way less frantic.

Skipping breakfast made me crash by 10am and then overeat at lunch. Finding stuff I could prep ahead or make in under three minutes meant I stopped showing up to work running on pure caffeine and spite.

Turns out my terrible mornings were really caused by my terrible nights. Scrolling my phone until midnight and then wondering why 6am felt like torture — fixing the night before was the real unlock.

Not everything has to be a big purchase or lifestyle overhaul. Some of the stuff that fixed my mornings cost less than lunch and just made the first hour of my day slightly less miserable.
