Mornings are hard on vacation but Singapore breakfast culture is persuasive. Soft-boiled eggs with soy sauce and toast with kaya jam pulled me out of bed faster than any alarm.

Asked my Singaporean friend where to eat and she looked personally offended that I'd been going to the tourist spots. These are the places she took me instead.

Didn't plan on having dessert four times in one day but Singapore made it impossible not to. The humidity also made me crave cold things constantly.

Walked through Little India following my nose and ended up eating three meals in four hours. The spice levels here made my usual “spicy” food back home feel like a joke.

Went from drinking terrible hotel Nescafe to finding some of the most interesting coffee shops I've ever been to. Singapore's specialty coffee scene is quietly stacked.

Had never heard of Peranakan cuisine before this trip and now it's the reason I'm already looking at return flights. It's a Chinese-Malay fusion that's completely unique to this region.

After eating my way through hawker centres in the heat, sometimes I just needed to sit somewhere beautiful with a cold drink and stare at the skyline. These delivered.
