Fast-pace read that takes place in the early 1970s Harlem, bringing to light the hypocrisies of religion, familial love and acceptance, inequalities of criminal justice system. Love that it is not divided by chapters.
If Beale Street Could Talk

I am legit a fangirl of Ottessa Moshfegh's writing style so this collection of short stories hits the spot. The reader gets plunged into a bunch of different character's lives.
Homesick for Another World
ย
This was my first Paulo Coelho read and based off the beauty of this book I will read plenty more. "When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better too" Loved the fable / adventure style of writing too.
The Alchemist
ย
Definitely a unique quick read, the events that unfold are found out through these employee statements that were reported. It was both compelling and dark.
The Employees

This was honestly better than I had anticipated (I got it for free from Stuff Your Kindle day)! It is a cute little cozy mystery that is a great palate cleanser in between books.
Books and Bribes

I love women who write short stories! it is a special kind of pleasure to read really short, bite-sized stories which succeed in capturing strong moments. A lot of the stories are absolutely unhinged!
Nineteen Claws and a Black Bird

Not going to lie, this book was wild. An unusual but interesting story and quick read. For all of my Literary Fiction lovers out there, based on a true event but not at all what you are expecting.
Cursed Bread

A science fiction dystopian that follows a novelist on an island under the control of the Memory Police. ย A dark and mysterious, yet hypnotic and gentle novel. I could not stop reading, the pacing is great.
The Memory Police

Ok, this might be controversial but this story felt extremely fast-pace. This was my first ever read by Ottessa Moshfegh. I really enjoyed the writing, a lot of shock factors and weird stuff. One of those stories where you do not know how to feel in ...
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh

So, I unfortunately made the mistake of buying the last of a series without knowingโฆ BUT it was worth the read nonetheless. These stories can be read in any order or as standalones, ย the character development in such few pages is impressive. Definitely can be a comfort read to go over again and again, I plan to read the rest of the "series".
Into the Riverlands

I had to add at least one graphic novel in this list, so this one is a crazy fast read. Very creepy and strange ghost stories told from chefs all around the world. The cultural ghost stories feel perfect in relation to what Anthony Bourdain stood for...
