Restaurants I'd Absolutely Go Back To

The sign of a good restaurant is one you want to return to…or that you keep telling your friends about. Here are a few of my favorites.

Cozy, intimate, and reliably delicious food. It's our go-to restaurant in Woodstock when we have out-of-town guests or we want a varied menu for different food preferences.
Spring House Tavern - always delicious

I never thought I'd be bragging about a hot dog place, but I have to. This is a tiny but wildly popular restaurant in the heart of downtown Strasburg, Virginia, and they make the best hot dog I've ever eaten in my several decades of life (well, excep...

A friend who used to work in a top-rated Indian restaurant in San Francisco took us to Curry Cuisine and said it's the best Indian food he's gotten since he moved to the East Coast. There was a big group of us, and our hosts had arranged a family-sty...

One of my favorite early-adult memories is being taken to Trader Vic's in New York City (now the only one in the U.S. is in San Francisco), but the memory is too vivid and too wonderful not to include it in this list. Starting at the entrance, we fel...

Step back into old world Italy when you enter this restaurant – you're likely to even get a personal violin serenade.

But the real attraction is the varied menu of Italian offerings, every one delicious and special in its own way.

On occasion, we have ordered take-out and found it equally outstanding.

Luray Caverns is wonderful and may be more famous, but the Shenandoah Caverns is our favorite in the Shenandoah Valley. First of all, you don't have the long lines that you do in Luray. Secondly, the natural beauty and history are equally stunning an...

La Fonda is a jewel within a jewel. Santa Fe is already a magical place, but this historic hotel right on the historic Santa Fe Plaza is a marvel. We had our daughter's wedding there in October 2010, and they went out of their way to make sure it was...

What is it about a waterfront location? We'd been wanting to visit the Tidewater Inn for years and finally got there for my birthday last April. The drive itself was a treat, with so many glimpses of various waterways crossed or flanked. The Inn has ...
