Where to eat in Naxos

Naxos has everything from family run mountain tavernas and waterfront seafood restaurants tto beachside lunches and hidden village gems.  These are the places I'd happily go back to, whether you're chasing fresh seafood, a long Greek lunch, or a sunset dinner with a view.  Expect generous portions, local produce and plenty of spots where the menu hasn't changed much because they've been doing it well for years.

This is the highest mountain in the Cyclades and Mount Zas according to Greek Mythology, Zeus was raised here.  If you're up for the hike, the summit rewards you with incredible 360 degree views across Naxos and the surrounding islands.  Even if you don't go all the way to the top, the scenery along the way is spectacular.

Halki was once the capital of Naxos and is one of the prettiest villages on the island.  It's known for it's neoclassical buildings, boutique shops, art galleries and the historic Vallindras Distillery where Kitron Naxos' signature citrus liqueur has been produced since 1986.  It's a great place to slow down, wander the laneways and experience a more authentic side of island life.

Mountsouna is a quiet fishing village on the east Coast of Naxos known for its crystal-clear water, waterfront tavernas, and laid back atmosphere.  Once the island's main export port for emergy mining, you can still see remnants of the old cableway system that transported minerals from the mountains to the sea.  It's a great spot to escape the crows, and experience a slower side of Naxos.

If you're up for a hike Mount Zas is the highest peak in the Cyclades and the views from the top incredible according to Greek mythology. This is where Zeus was raised and on a clear day you can see across Naxos and out to other neighbouring islands.
