Strawberry matcha worth the $$ in Brisbane + the Gold Coast

Purple Star emoji 9 items
If you want that sweet, pretty, “I’ve got my life together” drink (without it tasting like lawn clippings), welcome. I love strawberry matcha and review it everywhere in Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Australia.

My standard is simple: the strawberry has to be properly sweet, but the matcha still needs to show up smooth, earthy, and present. If it tastes like dirt, cordial, or sand, it doesn’t make the cut.

Brisbane: Strawberry matcha worth ordering

Brisbane is where I’m the least forgiving, not because I’m difficult (I am), but because we have too many good cafés for anyone to be serving a gritty, bitter cup of disappointment.

Rise Bakery is what you go to when you want your strawberry matcha to come with a side of I have my life together.

It’s northside, waterfront Hamilton, extremely aesthetic, and the kind of place that makes a “quick stop” turn into an experience.

They do mimosas. They do truffle pies (me and my partner are weak to them). And, crucially, they do strawberry matcha properly.

The matcha is ceremonial, which you can taste immediately! It's smooth, premium, not bitter, not gritty, not “green milk pretending”.

The strawberry is sweet enough to feel like a treat, but it doesn’t drown the matcha. It’s balanced. It has manners. It’s exactly what I want when I order strawberry matcha. Sweet, matcha-forward, and quietly impressive.

I’ve taken my boyfriend, I’ve taken my daughter, there’s something for everyone, and it never feels like a compromise.

If I’m driving past, I “accidentally” detour. Every time. I repurchase, happily and often!

If you’re in the Brisbane CBD and you need a strawberry matcha that feels like a reward, go here.

They serve it in the cutest takeaway can. It's very “I’m running errands, but I’m still the main character” energy.

The flavour is exactly the kind of balance I respect. You get the earthy matcha (so it still tastes like matcha, not green milk), and the strawberry is properly sweet without turning it into cordial.

Honestly, it tastes like matcha mixed with strawberry Nesquik, but make it chic. Creamy, sweet, nostalgic…still matcha-forward enough that you feel like an adult with standards.

I would absolutely go out of my way to get this again. Which is the whole point of a recommendation, right?

Best for: CBD strawberry matcha that’s sweet, balanced and aesthetic
Verdict: Repurchased, happily!

This is one of those places you don’t discover so much as accidentally fall into. A quaint little juice bar that makes you feel like you’ve found a secret.

My boyfriend and I went in for a croissant, an açai bowl, and a strawberry matcha…and honestly, it was all suspiciously good.

The açai menu isn’t huge (if you’re an “I need options” person, you’ll still prefer somewhere like CocoBliss), but for what it is? It delivers.

My boyfriend rated the bakery goods highly and would absolutely go back for them, which is a strong endorsement because he doesn’t hand those out freely.

Now, the strawberry matcha: 9/10. Almost perfect.

Refreshing, sweet in the right way, and still clearly matcha. They use strawberry syrup, which is exactly why it works because you get that proper sweetness without the “fresh strawberry but somehow tastes like nothing” problem.

It’s not ceremonial matcha, so don’t expect a precious, whisked, premium moment. It's an excellent grab-and-go, it's cute, balanced, and worth it if you’re in the area.

Best for: A quick strawberry matcha that’s sweet, balanced, and easy.
Verdict: Repurchased quietly and happily.

I ordered this with full scepticism and a minor trauma response. I’d been scarred by a strawberry matcha upstairs at The Coffee Club (truly horrendous, I still think about it), so trying again in the same Westfield felt like tempting fate.

And then, annoyingly, it was good.

This one leans a little more matcha-forward than strawberry, which I actually respect, as long as the matcha is drinkable, and here it is. They also use real strawberries, which can be a gamble (sometimes it tastes like polite fruit water), but someh...

It’s not a ceremonial, life-changing moment but for a shopping centre strawberry matcha? It’s a pleasant surprise. And I don’t say that lightly.

Best for: Matcha-leaning strawberry matcha if you're at the Westfield
Verdict: I've repurchased, but wouldn't go specifically out of my way for it.

Gold Coast: Strawberry matcha worth the drive

The Gold Coast is all sunshine and holiday energy, which means your strawberry matcha should taste like a treat, right? Not a compromise you make because you’re “trying to like matcha”.

This place is half nail salon, half matcha bar, which sounds chaotic until you realise it’s actually a power move.

They sell matcha and basically nothing else. No distractions. No “we also do smoothies”. Just matcha, with conviction.

It’s not a sit-down café. There aren’t many seats, and I wouldn’t plan a long chat here. It’s very grab-and-go. You come in, get your drink, and leave looking like you have taste and places to be.

Now, the strawberry matcha. Honestly, best on the Gold Coast in my opinion.

It’s the perfect balance of sweet and earthy. It's creamy strawberry flavour upfront, with fresh matcha still clearly present underneath. Nothing gets bullied. Nothing tastes like lawn clippings. It’s smooth, premium, and properly satisfying.

They use strawberry syrup, which I actually prefer because it makes the strawberry flavour show up confidently instead of whispering from the background. And the matcha is ceremonial, so you know it’s the good stuff.

It was busy when we went, and I completely understand why. My boyfriend got the brown sugar matcha and rated it too, which feels like corroborating evidence.

Also…it’s prepared by a really hot hipster. If you enjoy being handed a perfect matcha by someone who looks like they own vintage sunglasses unironically, this place will speak to you. 😂

Best for: Gold Coast strawberry matcha that’s sweet, balanced, and genuinely premium.
Verdict: Go. That's all, just go!

Yes, the bagels are the headline. But don’t overlook the strawberry matcha, it’s quietly excellent, which is the best kind.

It’s not ceremonial grade, so I wasn’t expecting anything dramatic. I was expecting “fine”. Instead, it was a lovely surprise, balanced, sweet, and actually thought-through.

They use strawberry syrup (so the sweetness is consistent and unapologetic), and then they go one step further with a strawberry foam on top, which is what makes it. It smooths everything out and gives you that even strawberry sweetness without drown...

The matcha still tastes earthy and present, not bitter, not chalky, not green milk pretending. This is the kind of strawberry matcha you order once and then start ordering “just because you’re in the area”.

Best for: Gold Coast strawberry matcha that’s sweet and balanced.
Verdict: Probably wouldn't repurchase as there are some real gems on the Gold Coast!

I know what you’re thinking. A restaurant. On a strawberry matcha list. Relax.

This is not a latte, but this is a strawberry matcha cocktail, and it deserves its own little moment.

Their signature Matcha Fields cocktail is genuinely addictive. It’s a sweet, glossy strawberry vodka mix with matcha-flavoured foam on top, which is backwards to how it usually goes (normally the matcha is the base and strawberry is the accessory), b...

The strawberry hits first, fruity, sweet, and dangerous. Then the matcha foam comes in with that earthy edge that keeps it feeling grown-up and not just sugar. It’s weird. It’s wonderful.

It’s exactly the kind of drink you order “just to try”…and then suddenly you’re ordering three. Which I did. Back-to-back. No shame.

Best for: Strawberry matcha lovers who want a night-out version Verdict: Obviously repurchasing again…

On the road: Strawberry matcha reviews

Even when I’m travelling, I don’t suddenly become relaxed about matcha. I’ll order strawberry matcha in a new city and judge the local interpretation like it’s a cultural exchange program.

I’m not from Yeppoon, but I was absolutely on a mission to find a strawberry matcha that didn’t disappoint me, and Lure Living was a very pleasant surprise.

The matcha is rich, but it blends into the milk beautifully, so it still drinks smooth and creamy instead of harsh. It tastes like proper matcha (present, earthy, confident) without tipping into bitter.

And the strawberry? Real strawberries, which is always a gamble because it can end up tasting like polite fruit water. Here it doesn’t. It’s distinctive, balanced, and somehow lands right in that sweet spot of not too rich, not too sweet, just…correc...

Is Yeppoon overflowing with matcha competition? No. Which makes this even more valuable. If you’re in town and you want a strawberry matcha that feels intentional, this is the one I’d send you to.

Best for: A genuinely good strawberry matcha in Yeppoon
Verdict: My number one Yeppoon spot, no hesitation.

I went here with intent. I’d seen it mentioned in reviews while I was on my Yeppoon matcha hunt, so obviously I had to investigate.

I ordered my usual strawberry matcha, and it was good! This is a matcha-first situation.

Strong matcha. Confident matcha. I’ve noticed Yeppoon cafés tend to be generous with the matcha, which I don’t mind because I actually like matcha when it tastes like matcha…but it’s something to know before you order.

The strawberry is more restrained. They use their own strawberries, so you get a hint of strawberry rather than a syrupy, sweet strawberry moment.

If you want your strawberry matcha to taste like dessert, this might not hit. But if you want the matcha to lead and the strawberry to just soften the edges? This is exactly the vibe.

Best for: Matcha lovers who want it strong, not sugary.
Verdict: Too earthy for my liking, but would repurchase if i feel like a less sweet version.
