Power outages never seem to happen at a convenient time.
Sometimes it's a winter storm that knocks out electricity when temperatures are freezing. Other times it's a summer thunderstorm, hurricane, wildfire, or unexpected grid failure that leaves your home in the dark. As a dad, I don't like scrambling for...
That's why I slowly built a simple emergency power kit with products I know my family can rely on when the unexpected happens. Everything in this list was chosen because it solves a real problem during a blackout—whether it's providing light, keeping...
These aren't products you buy because you're expecting an emergency. They're products you buy because emergencies never send an invitation. ❤️ Being prepared doesn't mean living in fear—it means protecting the people who depend on you. 👇 Take a few minutes today to build your emergency kit. You'll hopefully never need most of these products—but if you do, you'll be glad you planned ahead.
Excellent small flashlight. Interesting that they don't even make a lumens claim, but it's a bunch. Nice, perfectly round beam with uniform brightness from edge to edge at both maximum spread and maximum zoom/focus, and relatively uniform in between....
One of my favorite features is that it is powered by an 18650 battery, which is a very powerful beast, and is relatively common. So no throwing this flashlight away just because the built in battery no longer holds a charge. Just replace it. The stan...
I would assume that that is on low (which is still a lot of light). I also have not had the flashlight long enough to gauge it's durability. Still, would I recommend them? Yes. In fact, after my wife bought the first pair while she was traveling, and...
TrixHub 2-Pack Rechargeable LED Flashlights
My wife ordered this and initially I was skeptical of its practicality. Boy was I wrong.
This organizer is great! It is laid out in a logical and obvious way. There is no mistaking where each size of battery belongs. It is well made. Convenient carry case with snap type clasps that keep the lid on. It is now so easy to find the right siz...
Amazon Basics Portable Battery Storage Case with Tester
Power outages never seem to happen at a convenient time. I prefer rechargeable flashlights because they're always ready without worrying about dead batteries. We keep one in the bedroom and another near the front door so it's easy to find in the dark...
These Emergency lights are great. They were very easy to install. Just plug them into your wall socket. They keep charged because they are constantly drawing on your AC 110 volt electricity. No batteries needed.
I have seen them come on like they should when there are power outages. They will light an area of the room. They can also be pulled out of the wall and used like a flashlight in your hand. If you press the little button, you can also activate a nigh...
I feel more secure that I have these in many different rooms ready when needed. See the photos.
Fantastic idea and design. Comfortable in my hands. They are unobtrusive and stylish in white. These were also a great value at a great price point. Highly recommended.
ROSSEX 4-in-1 Emergency LED Flashlight
Bought these lights to have on hand in case of power outages at home and they are great. I leave them near a window in the basement so they are always charged when i need them . They are super bright and can illuminate very large rooms. I love that y...
These are a must buy for camping or for around the house incase of power outages.
XTAUTO Collapsible LED Camping Lantern 4-Pack
A lantern lights up an entire room, making it much more useful than a flashlight during longer outages. It's especially helpful if you're trying to keep kids calm, prepare food, or move around safely when the power is out.
This lantern is well made, feels light but solid, the rubberized sides feel nice. The brightness of this lantern is very good, and is adjustable where you have several brightness modes and 3 color temperatures. It has a rubber handle on top and a met...
We took it camping and it lasted for several hours without loosing brightness, so I think it holds the battery charge pretty well. I compared this lantern to some other flashlight-lantern duos from Amazon for roughly the same price but preferred this...
Glocusent 135 LED Camping Lantern, 1500LM
When the power goes out in the middle of the night, it's surprisingly easy to trip over toys, furniture, or stairs. A rechargeable emergency night light automatically turns on when needed, making nighttime blackouts much less stressful.
These things are AWESOME! So many applications but I use them in my bathrooms for middle of the night needs where I dont want to blind myself with the regular lights leading to loss of sleep later. They hold a charge really well, I've only done it tw...
It can be used just about anywhere you need just a bit of light, but keep in mind it's just a small LED that's generally just a bit brighter than a standard nightlight, but does have a setting where you can adjust the brightness. Its not enough to il...
Lyridz Rechargeable Motion Sensor Night Light 3 Pack
I've got APC battery backups for years to plug my computer and WiFi into. My old one was on the way out, and I needed one right away. I ordered this and got it the next day. It works well, has surge protector slots, and is quiet. Hopefully it will be...
APC UPS 600VA/330W Battery Backup BE600M1
I've used a number of different chargers over the years and this is hands down the best and well worth the extra $20 or so. Here's why: 1. It's Fast. The Charmast 20000mah Power Bank comes with 20w charging speed which meant nothing to me when I ordered it but now I know it means my phone will be charged quickly. I have a new Iphone and Apple's expensive charging cord and pack are pr... 2. Built in Charging Cords: The built in charging cords are a huge benefit. No more looking for the right cord, no carrying around multiple long cords that don't seem to fit properly in my car, jacket, or bedroom. I can charge multiple devices at the... 3. Long Lasting Battery Life: I use to keep 2 of the $20 phone charges on hand so that I could swap them out once the battery died which seemed to happen after only a couple of uses. This charge seem to last 4 times as long as those other versions an... 4. LCD Screen Showing Battery Life No more guessing if you should recharge your charger. Theres an LCD Screen that shows how much battery life is left and that makes life easier.
To Sum Up: Spend the extra $10-$20 and get an All-In-One, Long Lasting, Quick Charging device.
Charmast 20000mAh Portable Charger w/ Cables
This NiMH battery charger is quite a little gem! It does exactly what it’s supposed to do with no muss, no fuss and no surprises. Operation is simple and straightforward, making it very easy to use. And it works for both AA and AAA size batteries. In...
There is one caveat though: Batteries must be charged in pairs. A single battery won’t work. That means you can charge either two or four AA’s, two or four AAA’s, or all eight batteries at the same time. But you can’t charge just one. (Some kind of a...
A minor inconvenience for some folks perhaps, but how many people are there who need to charge only one battery at a time? State-of-charge is indicated by a large translucent panel that occupies the upper-third of the front of the charger. When first...
A thoughtful extra feature for travelers is the fold-away power plug. The two prongs that plug into the wall socket can be folded down, so they lie flat against the case, instead of simply poking out the back where they might snag some fragile garmen...
Energizer Recharge Value Charger for AA/AAA
Was watching TV and heard it from across the house for flash flood warning. It was supposed to be just rain showers today but knew it’s always worse than what the weather channels predict, so had antenna up just in case for NOAA radio to play. So I u...
I definitely recommend this product for emergencies! Better than other radios because it alarms loud for warnings/watches. We can sleep at night in peace and know we’ll get warning and not depend on our phones for warnings (our phones don’t receive w...
Midland WR120B NOAA Emergency Weather Radio
Fantastic little emergency radio lets me crank charge a built in battery to charge my devices in an emergency outage.
There is an emergency siren that is quite loud (which I accidentally activated during a meeting) . It looks sturdy and capable with a lot of features like a flashlight and solar charging.
You should make sure it is charged up occasionally in addition to keeping some AAA batteries with it just in case. I hope I never have to use it.
FosPower NOAA Weather Radio & Power Bank
This extension cord is a great cable, and I have too many cables to compare to sadly. It’s a solid 16/3 gauge, feels well-made, and doesn’t have that flimsy “one strong breeze away from disaster” vibe that cheap cords sometimes have. For the price, i...
I’m using these for Christmas lights, and the 10-foot length is perfect. Long enough to reach where I need it, short enough that you’re not coiling up 40 feet of extra cord and pretending you’ll “organize it later.” The insulation feels thick and dur...
Being rated for outdoor use is a big plus. It’s handled rain, cold nights, and general holiday chaos without any issues. The black color also helps it blend in better around bushes, railings, and dark trim instead of screaming “temporary wiring” to t...
Skrizcable 16/3 25FT Outdoor Extension Cord
We've had these for about a year now and they have held up wonderfully. I have noticed a small decrease in battery life, but after a year of use that is to be expected. Perfect for a evening hike and small and light enough to keep with you everytime ...
LHKNL 2-Pack Rechargeable LED Headlamp
Great candles! The height is exactly what I was looking for along with the non melted look. They use two AA batteries which I really appreciate. (I would rather not have to deal with the button batteries if I can help it.)
The brightness is great and can be adjusted. They have a steady on as well as flickering option. Personally, the flickering is a bit too flickery for my liking. I like a more subtle flicker, so I will be using the steady on option. Easy set up and fi...
They’re perfect for what I need and you absolutely can’t beat the price!
Works very well, Remote works great. Love the look of a real candle.
Gmnee 3x4 Outdoor Waterproof Flameless LED Candles
Keeping emergency supplies organized means you don't waste valuable time searching for them when the power goes out. I like storing flashlights, batteries, radios, and chargers together in one easy-to-grab container.
IRIS USA WeatherPro File Box, Clear 32 Qt
This mini first aid kit is super convenient and packed with way more supplies than I expected for its size.
The hard shell case feels durable and the waterproof design gives me peace of mind for keeping it in the car, diaper bag, or taking it on trips. It has a really nice variety of items—bandages, gauze, wipes, and other basics—so it covers a lot of mino...
Everything is neatly organized, which makes it easy to grab what you need quickly. The size is perfect for tossing in a backpack or glove compartment without taking up much space, and it feels sturdy enough to handle being moved around a lot.
Overall, it’s a practical, well-made kit that’s great for home, travel, camping, or everyday “just in case” situations.
Mini 150-Piece Waterproof First Aid Kit
I purchased these foil emergency blankets for reasons that were, at the time, impeccable—though accessible only to my sleeping mind.
In the first dream, I knew with absolute certainty that I required them. The situation was urgent yet undefined, the sort of emergency that demands preparedness without ever troubling itself to explain why. The blankets shimmered with purpose. I felt reassured.
In the second dream—deeper, clearer—I was already using them. I was warm. I was safe. I was nobly wrapped in reflective dignity, protected from the elements and from regret. The blankets performed flawlessly, exactly as one hopes emergency equipment will, even when the emergency itself remains symbolic.
Then I awoke.
Upon inspection, the world was calm. No exposure, no crisis, no immediate need for thermal intervention. The blankets remained folded, pristine, and faintly judgmental.
I realized then that while I may someday require one foil emergency blanket, I almost certainly do not require four. And yet, I do not resent them. They sit quietly, prepared for futures both real and imagined.
The material is lightweight, neatly packaged, and convincingly reflective—capable, I am sure, of saving a life or at least dramatically underscoring one’s seriousness in a mild inconvenience. They have done nothing wrong. They simply arrived ahead of...
