My favorite books by or about the literary fellowship known as The Inklings: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams, Hugo Dyson, Adam Fox, Warren Lewis, and others who popped in and out from time to time.
The first of Tolkien’s famous trilogy. One of my favorite parts is when the hobbits find refuge in the house of Tom Bombadil.
The Fellowship of the Ring book by J.R.R. Tolkien
The second of the famous trilogy. Treebeard is one of my favorite characters. How wonderful it would be if Ents roamed the world.
The Two Towers book by J.R.R. Tolkien
The final book in the trilogy. Samwise Gamgee is one of the most heroic characters in literature.
The Return of the King book by J.R.R. Tolkien
Where the adventures begin—with Bilbo Baggins himself.
The Hobbit book by J.R.R. Tolkien
The Pevensie children begin their adventure in Narnia!
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe book by C.S. Lewis
Diana Glyer is one of the best scholars out there when it comes to Lewis and his ilk. Her understanding of how creativity thrived in community for the Inklings is insightful. It’s an engaging read.
