My first attempt involved dollar store pots and zip ties. They lasted about one rainstorm. These are the ones that survived wind, rain, and my neighbor's dog bumping into the fence.

Planters alone gave me spots of color. Adding climbers filled in the gaps and made the whole fence look intentional instead of like random pots hanging around.

Confession: I killed every plant I owned before figuring out watering on a vertical setup. Gravity works against you when pots are hanging on a fence. These fixed my biggest problem.

Regular garden soil is way too heavy for fence planters. Learned that the hard way when a pot ripped right off my fence and shattered on the patio. Lightweight mixes and the right fertilizer made all the difference.

Once the planters were up and growing, I realized the fence itself still looked rough between pots. A few small additions pulled everything together and made it look like I actually planned the whole thing.
