I haven't read anything new in years, I keep recycling the same books, so a lot of these are YA! ๐ You can search these on ThriftBooks or eBay to find them cheaper! I'm also a big fan of audiobooks, which tend to be cheaper as well. :)

An amazing book where a r**ist gets what he deserves, at the hands of a teenage girl. I'd rate it a 9/10 because the last chapter didn't go the way I wanted it to lol but I loved the rest. [TW for SA and violence]
The Female of the Species by Mandy McGinnis

This book is written in such an interesting way, your brain literally has to adapt to a new way of reading every chapter, because more and more letters of the alphabet get โbannedโ and the writer has to find ways to say what she wants to say without ...
Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn

My first ever girlfriend recommended this book to me, a really interesting story about accepting yourself for who you are. (LGBTQ+)
More Happy Than Not by Adam Silvera

If you think a rave in an abandoned subway station sounds coolโฆ well you're right, that sounds sick, but this book may change your mind. Don't want to give too much away, but I wasn't sure if I should catagorize this as fiction or fantasy. ;)
Survive the Night by Danielle Vega

Every chapter includes a pie recipe, and my copy of this is stained with oil and has flour in it because the apple pie recipe in there is FLAWLESS!!! Also the story is about a cat, so that's fantastic too.

In my mother's words after I made her read this book, โI thought I'd be crying over the boy who has cancer, not the dang cow!โ
Defiance by Valerie Hobbs

My second all-time favorite series. I love the story of overcoming oppression, but I also love that the series illustrates how messy and sometimes morally questionable revolution and escape from oppression can be. I also relate to Katniss so much per...
The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins

The beautiful tale of an outcast finding where he fits in, and realizing that his uniqueness is not a flaw, but an asset. This is the only sci-fi/fantasy type of book that I haven't hated tbh (except HP, obviously). Lent a signed copy of this to my e...
The Price of Creation by Lance Conrad

(F**k JK Rowling obviously) I know it's cringe, but I love HP so much. Listening to/watching/reading HP is one of the only ways I can completely shut my brain off and just escape into another world. I also love the theme of rebellion and fighting aga...
Harry Potter by She Who Shall Not Be Named

I was SO anti reading this series, until my middle school best friend made me. I was very surprised when I loved it! I usually don't like fantasy, but I like the way this series is written. Definitely aimed at younger kids, but it's a fun, easy read.
Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

This was my favorite book for YEARS! It takes place during the Great Chicago Fire, and is written in diary form. Quite frankly, everything that could possibly go wrong for her, does. There's also multiple wild twists involving her love interest, whic...
Down the Rabbit Hole - Dear America

A harrowing insight into daily life for those imprisoned in a concentration camp; this story is about a girl forced to work manufacturing bombs for her captors after being separated from the rest of her family.
Making Bombs for Hitler by Marsha Skrypuch

Written in diary form, this is the story of an African American girl living in the South during segregation. The story heavily involves themes of racism and prejudice, with a mystery for you to try and solve in between. An easy-to-comprehend example ...
Color Me Dark - Dear America

This was my favorite book for years. In diary form, it tells the story for a teenage girl who's a slave on a plantation. She learns to read, and slowly the idea of freedom becomes less of a concept and more of a goal.

A biography about a small girl who survived the holocaust, after being imprisoned in the Lodz ghetto in Poland for being Jewish.

Super fun book I've had since I was a kid, full of riddles and puzzles that are pretty difficult!
