Kona, HI

Kona is definitely one of my favorite places to decompress and just be.  I would say that it's a little more laid back than Maui, and often not as crowded.  If you love to hike, snorkel, walking on the beach (green and black sand) this definitely is the place for you.  If your plans consists of staying a week or more, I would highly recommend renting a condo on VRBO or AirBnB.   Eating out every day can add up quickly and be quite expensive.

Where to Stay

My favorite place to stay is at the Magic Sands because the view is amazing and I love the sound of the crashing waves.  Beach access is right next door with a restaurant onsite if you don't feel like venturing out.

This beach is so beautiful especially at sunset. Spend the day sunbathing, snorkeling, or just taking in the view.  It does get crowded so come early to grab a great spot.

There is always something to see and do on Kona, and it's opposite side, Hilo.

There is lots of great hiking on the Big Island. Be sure to dress properly. Kona is the much warmer sunnier side, while Hilo is more wet.

I always have to visit the local famers market in about every place I visit. The attraction here for me was the fresh avocados, pineapple, and rambutan's. The fresh produce was hands down way better than the grocery markets and inexpensive.
