I used to think silicone bottles were all the same. Then one exploded in my carry-on during a red-eye to Denver and I smelled like coconut conditioner for two days. These are the ones that survived pressure changes and rough handling.

Silicone is great until you try squeezing out thick moisturizer or hair mask through a tiny hole. That's when rigid jars and bottles saved my sanity. These hold viscous stuff without the fight.

Nothing worse than a spray bottle that dribbles instead of mists, or one that randomly fires in your bag because the nozzle got bumped. Tested a pile of them and these actually work the way spray bottles should.

Pumps are convenient until they depress in your bag and squirt lotion all over your passport. Found a few that have actual locking mechanisms, not just caps you hope stay on.

Even with the best bottles, I still want a backup plan. One catastrophic sunscreen explosion in 2019 taught me that a good toiletry bag is insurance, not optional.

Some products don't play nice with generic bottles. Toothpaste, perfume, contact solution. They all need their own thing. Learned this after trying to squeeze toothpaste out of a silicone tube for the last time.

Sometimes the fix isn't a better bottle. It's a better cap, a better bag seal, or a trick that keeps air pressure from ruining your day. These small additions solved problems I didn't even know I had.
