If you're a David Lynch fan you've probably seen this already.  If you're not a David Lynch fan maybe it's time to become one! You don't have to understand it all to enjoy the mastery on display here.  Silencio!

Oh goodness… this movie was so dear to me right around the time I graduated college.  And it still is!  It stars Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo in a very early and wonderful role.  Kenneth Lonergan's script will worm its way into your heart and make a home there.  And Bach's Cello Suite in G has been use in countless movies as an emotional shortcut, but here it feels perfectly grounded and takes root into some deep emotions along with the characters.

One of Christopher Nolan's earliest and best films.  And Guy Pearce?  Come on. Always great.  The fractured storytelling enhances the entire experience and makes for a riveting experience.

This is a classic for a reason and it spawned countless lesser imitations.  I remember seeing Fellowship of the Ring in the theater in my early twenties and the experience stayed with my forever.  These films are movie magic of the highest order.  And I honestly was not sure at first about Howard Shore scoring these films, but he knocked it out of the park.

A film composer putting a film with no score in his best-of list??  Yes.  Many times the choice NOT to have music in a scene is the best choice.  And in this film it works wonders to build and sustain the tension.

Christopher Guest has given us so many gems over the years, but this early mockumentary was (I think) the first film of his I saw and remains the funniest for me. I've seen it countless times and have quoted it endlessly with friends who are in the k...

I probably would've picked Spirited Away for a Ghibli movie, but I actually saw Totoro for the first time AFTER I had kids and it became a favorite film for the whole family and it's truly one of the best movies out that you can enjoy as an adult wit... It's an ode to childhood and imagination and it fully inhabits a wonderfully playful and joyous spirit without feeling saccharine in the slightest.

It's hard to pick a favorite P.T. Anderson film for me, but I'm going to go with the first one I saw because it's the one that made me fall in love with him as a director.  This sprawling, grandiose ensemble drama is right up my alley.  Jon Brion works wonders with the score as an entire character in itself.

You guys.  YOU GUYS.  This is the ONLY Jurassic Park there is.  They should've never made a 2nd or third or 4th or whatever incarnation they're on right now. THIS MOVIE is all you need.  The one and only original.  It's far superior in every regard to the movies that followed.  Yes, there were some decent moments in the 2nd one (thank you, Spielberg) but all we need is the original.  This movie came out right around the time I was starting to compose music as a 10 year and I was absolutely obsessed with John Williams perfect score.

I just remember having so much fun watching this movie in the theater. Tarantino really throws everything he has into this and it pretty much all works.  Uma Thurman is completely captivating from the first second you see her on screen until the last.  The fight scene with Gogo Yubari?? Chef's kiss.
