Awareness
Focus, balance, persistence, and peace. Awaken your mind fully.
Sam is a powerful thinker. Basically a living legend in the space. This book is looking at me every time I walk past it in the library. Soon.
Waking Up - Sam Harris
Eastern wisdom and traditions are very much on my radar and I can't wait to learn more. This book leapt out at me because it directly addresses people like me – English speakers who have trouble digesting strict translations.
Mindfulness in Plain English - Bhante Gunaratana
I heard Tim Ferriss highly recommend this one on an episode of Modern Wisdom. It's been sitting on my “to read” list for a while. Need to get it done.
Awareness - Anthony De Mello
Another one from Harris. His writing could fill half a shelf in a library and it would be hard to go wrong with his books. This one in particular is drawing me in.
Lying - Sam Harris
Cognition
Thinking about thinking is a challenging, yet worthy endeavor. Ponder it.
This book is pretty well known and, as someone who has read a little Kahneman in the past, I for sure want to see what the fuss is all about.
Thinking, Fast and Slow - Daniel Kahneman
Another great way of holding the mirror up to your mind and trying to understand what is going on in there. Seen this book mentioned in a few places.
The Art of Thinking Clearly - Rolf Dobelli
I've read enough Gladwell to know reading any Gladwell is well worth it. He has a knack for storytelling which is informative and engaging. Expect to learn and laugh.
Blink - Malcolm Gladwell
Honestly can't count how many times I've seen or heard this book recommended. There's got to be a “there” there. I'll find out one day soon.
Antifragile - Nassim Nicholas Taleb
Brown is simply incredible, both as a speaker and as a writer. Very accessible and empowering. I want to read more of her and this book is at the top of that list for me.
Rising Strong - Brené Brown
I heard about this book by listening to Within Reason, the episode with A.C. Grayling, so it's ironic seeing his review on the cover. Fascinating subject matter.
Contraduction - Dan Barker
Grit
Answer your questions and get to where you need to be without deviating.
This is a classic from the self-improvement category and I'm sad to say I haven't yet read this one, but I will soon. Too many people reference it and mention the powerful words of this Holocaust survivor.
Man's Search for Meaning - Viktor E. Frankl
I'm intrigued by Dan's story and plan to read several of his books. This one in particular boasts a bold tagline and covers a relatable subject area for many.
Life Driven Purpose - Dan Barker
Rainn has gained quite a bit of non-Office popularity recently and it's tied to this book. I want to see what all the rage is about (aside from the podcast). Pretty sure I saw it on the shelf in Theo Von's podcast.
Soul Boom - Rainn Wilson
His first book. I read Never Finished and loved it, so you better believe I'm going to read this one too. Goggins is amazing, to use a simple word. You can't not be improved by reading or listening to him.
Can't Hurt Me - David Goggins
This is essential Holiday. It's the one which catapulted him into the spotlight as the premier modern day Stoic guy. I'm circling back for this gem.
