DIY Supplies
Want to make your own costume keepsake? These are the supplies I use and recommend, all in one place.
Best for larger statement ornaments. I like this size when I have plenty of costume fabric or larger details I want to preserve. The bigger surface gives you more room to work with sequins, appliqués and special pieces from the costume.
Styrofoam Balls 6 Inch, 4PC White Foam
My go-to size for a classic ornament. It’s large enough to show off the special details from the costume without feeling oversized on the tree. Great for fabric, sequins, rhinestones and smaller appliqués.
Styrofoam Balls 4 Inch, 12PC White Foam
For the pretty parts you actually want to see. I use pearl-head pins when they’ll become part of the finished design—not just hold fabric in place. They’re especially cute with tulle, lace, sequins and other costume details.
1200PCS 1.6in Pearl Head Sewing Pins
For securing fabric without distracting from the costume details. I use these to pin and position fabric while I’m building the ornament. The small heads are especially helpful in areas where I want the costume—not the pin—to be the focus.
500Pcs Stainless Steel Dressmaker Pins
For the pieces that need a little extra staying power. I use hot glue for trims, embellishments and costume details that aren’t easy to secure with pins. A small glue gun gives you much better control for this kind of detail work.
ROMECH 60/100W Dual Temp Hot Glue Gun Set
Don’t forget the extras—you’ll use more than you think. I keep plenty on hand for securing trims, rhinestones and awkward little costume pieces. Clear glue works best so it disappears into the finished keepsake.
AdTech 10" Clear Hot Glue Sticks, Multi-Temp
My favorite finishing-detail trick. Decorative pins are perfect when the costume has rhinestones, pearls or extra sparkle you want to carry into the ornament. They secure the fabric while looking like they were part of the design all along.
300Pcs Corsage Bouquet Pins - Diamond & Pearl
because every finished ornament actually needs a hanger, and it belongs in the project rather than being filler.
Rainbow Satin Ribbon, 12 Colors, 3/8 Inch x 12 Rolls
makes it much easier to cut cleanly around sequins, tulle and costume details without snagging or fraying everything around them.
Ortarco Seam Ripper & Thread Remover Kit
If you are like me- you are likely to scatter it all over! Save your sanity by having a project bin for it!

Amazon Basics Cardstock Paper 8.5x11 65lb 250 Sheets
Make a flip book if you do more than one costume to have so your dancer can look back on their journey!
