Chasing waves & sunsets: my Montenegro beach diary

Purple Star emoji 10 items
Montenegro’s coast is small but full of magic, turquoise water, pine trees, cliffs, and sunsets that melt right into the sea. Here are my favorite beaches, from Herceg Novi to Ulcinj. Each one has a vibe, a story, and a memory.

Herceg Novi

A charming coastal town at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor, full of flowers, stairs, and Mediterranean calm. Everything feels a bit slower here, and that’s exactly the point.

A turquoise paradise surrounded by olive trees. The boat ride to get here is half the magic.

Budva

Lively, colorful, and full of energy, Budva is where history meets nightlife. Between medieval walls and beach bars, you’ll find both calm and chaos (the good kind).

Sveti Stefan i Miloreč

This is Montenegro’s most iconic spot — elegant, peaceful, and surrounded by pine trees. It’s all about slow luxury and sea breeze.

The classic view! The island looks magical at sunset. A bit pricey, but worth it for the atmosphere.

A wilder, more hidden beach nearby, surrounded by cliffs and usually empty. My secret spot for peace and quiet.

Bar

Simple, real, and full of local life. Bar has long beaches, great food, and that authentic Adriatic spirit.

Ulcinj

The southernmost town on the coast — sandy, windy, and full of energy. Ulcinj feels different from the rest of Montenegro — freer, wider, and full of light.
