West Side
I live on the west side, so this list skews west side-heavy. But what can I say? Lotsa good coffee over here!
The cutest little grandmacore spot, with delicious crepes and baked goods (and empanadas on the weekends only!) Great for families.
Brewella's (Lakewood)
Clean aesthetics, very cute drinks — and they taste as good as they look, so it’s not just hype. Light bites and bagels; biscuits on the weekends.
Ready Set! (Gordon Square)
Drink good coffee, pet cute cats! The cafe section is separate from the cat side, so you can still support their work even if you’re not a cat person. They’re a partner of the APL; all cats are adoptable.
affoGATO Cat Cafe (Tremont)
Kinda old-fashioned in a truly delightful way. Simple and classic. No curated vibes, no fancy drinks. Just good coffee and friendly community.
Civilization (Tremont)
Cute and vibey, with really fun specials. Locations on E. 9th, inside Tower City and on Rockside Road in Independence.
Milk + Honey (Downtown)
Beautiful, minimalist space with ample seating — but it gets very busy!
Lekko (Hingetown)
Brightly colored coffee shop with locations in Tremont and Lakewood. Tbh their coffee isn’t my favorite, but their vibe can’t be beat.
Roasted (Tremont & Lakewood)
Latin-owned with great coffee and delicious pastries, often featuring Mexican flavors
Dahlia (Detroit-Shoreway)
Big, beautiful, minimalist space with bougie drinks and baristas who take themselves very seriously. Possibly the best coffee in town, if not always my favorite vibe. Get there early to get a seat!
Goodkind (Lakewood)
Down-to-earth spot always featuring local art on the walls. Great smoothies, too! And they have a drive-thru, which is rare for indie shops.
Erie Island (Rocky River)
Easily one of the prettiest and most peaceful spots in Cleveland. Start with coffee, stay through the day, and end with a cocktail. In between, get a giant croissant with pistachio butter.
Patron Saint (Hingetown)
Such a cute space. Owned by a mother and daughter — and it’s a wine bar, too!
Emilie's (Avon Lake)
Lovely, spacious spot that features local art and strong espresso. Try a scone!
Magdalen's (Lorain)
East Side
I don’t know the easy side nearly as well, but I do know that I love these spots!
Coffee? Beer? Both? The word “brew” has double meaning here!
Blue Sky Brews (Little Italy)
Top-notch roastery with incredible coffee that you can get in their cafes or at a few other spots around town. Nice aesthetics, friendly staff. Locations in Hudson, Chagrin Falls and Pinecrest.
Heartwood (Various Locations)
A hip, eclectic spot with friendly owners and great brews
Six Shooter Coffee (Waterloo Arts)
South of CLE
I’m originally from the Akron area, so I had to throw some hometown love into the mix, should you be venturing south.
Just… the coolest spot! Located in a massive space that used to be a mechanic shop. Live music and good shopping in the same building.
Yada Yada (Cuyahoga Falls)
An imminently Instagrammable spot in admittedly unexpected location. If you have cause to be in Parma Heights, definitely stop it. Try the turkey pesto crepe!
Café Blanc (Parma Heights)
Quirky, indie spot with an eclectic vibe. I’ve only ever been to their Stow location, but it was my favorite place in town until I moved!
