BHA (salicylic acid) and its gentler cousin LHA are oil-soluble, meaning they actually get inside your pores to dissolve the buildup that makes them look enlarged. This is your first line of defense.

Niacinamide is the ingredient I recommend most for pores. It regulates sebum, tightens the look of pores over time, and brightens skin tone — all while being gentle enough for daily use. These are my favorites from budget to splurge.

Azelaic acid is the ingredient I wish more people knew about. It's anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and refines texture, making it incredible for acne-prone and sensitive skin that also struggles with enlarged pores.

Retinoids are the gold standard for long-term pore refinement. They increase cell turnover, unclog pores from the inside, and improve skin texture over time. Start slow, moisturize well, and be patient. The results are worth it. Follow me on TikTok (@k.r.bee) for my full tretinoin journey!

Clay is your weekly pore deep-clean. It draws out sebum, tightens pores temporarily, and gives skin that fresh, matte reset. Use once or twice a week, never more.

These aren't strictly pore-focused, but they smooth, hydrate, and prep skin in ways that make your pore-refining actives work better. Think of them as the supporting cast.

Sun damage worsens the appearance of pores over time. A good SPF is part of your pore refinement routine whether you think of it that way or not. These are my favorites that don't clog pores or leave a white cast.
