Romantasy
Magic. Epic love affairs. Faeries & dragons. All the good stuff.
While subsequent books in the series don’t pack quite the same punch for me, book 1 of The Empyrean was a great read! Complete with dragons, a shadow daddy, and a badass FMC.
Fourth Wing (The Empyrean Series, 1) by Rebecca Yarros
ACOTAR was my “gateway “ romantasy book, morphing into a full-blown obsession that I’ve made my entire personality. I wish I could read this series for the first time again.
A Court of Thorns and Roses Series by Sarah J. Maas
The first couple books in the series were a bit rough for me (especially following the ACOTAR book hangover), but by Heir of Fire I was hooked.
Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas
This is the best book I’ve read since ACOTAR. I can’t wait to return to this universe when the next book comes out.
When the Moon Hatched (The Moonfall Series, 1) by Sarah A. Parker
A romantasy novel inspired by Norse mythology; what’s not to like?
A Fate Inked in Blood: Saga of the Unfated
Currently sitting in my reading pile. I haven't read this one yet, but I hear good things!
The Serpent and the Wings of Night by Carissa Broadbent
A twisty & action-packed trilogy with a complex magic system, political intrigue, war, rebellion… These books are a rollercoaster from start to finish.
This series was originally indie published and is going to trad publishing starting this year ...
Daughter of No Worlds (War of Lost Hearts 1)
High on by tbr list. Based on some of the quotes I've read from the book, I know I'm going to love it!
Quicksilver by Callie Hart
A super fun romantasy book with “The Witcher” vibes: terrifying monsters, interesting magic, and a sassy & relatable FMC.
Shield of Sparrows by Devney Perry
Fantasy
“Journey before destination” | The Stormlight Archive is a fantasy series of epic proportions (quite literally--the longest book is 1344 pages).
THE STORMLIGHT ARCHIVE® SERIES - Brandon Sanderson
Classic. A fantasy staple. Also, I haven't read them (LMAO). But I'm getting there!
The Lord of the Rings
I haven’t started this series yet, but I hear a lot of people like it as much or MORE than The Stormlight Archive.
Broken into 2 “eras” (books 1-3 are Era 1, books 4-6 Era 2 with a time jump and some different characters).
Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson
One of my favorite reads of the year!
Bury Our Bones in the Midnight Soil by V.E. Schwab
One of the most outrageous & hilarious books I’ve read this year. Joe Abercrombie’s writing is perfection.
The Devils (Devils, 1) by Joe Abercrombie
Mystery/Thriller
You either love this book or hate it. I loved it, but I can admit that now that I’m a parent this book might not be for me a 2nd time.
Verity by Colleen Hoover
I highly recommend the audiobook for this one! There are podcast transcripts throughout the book that are really brought to life in the audiobook version.
None of This Is True: A Novel by Lisa Jewell
I devoured this book in just a few sittings! I loved it, this book pulled me out of a reading slump.
