Austen’s most underrated work! Catherine is every bit as fun and spunky of a character as Emma!
Northanger Abbey : Target
This is the first graphic novel I’ve ever read, and still the best. Utterly compelling and heartbreaking.
The Complete Persepolis: Volumes 1 and 2 - Barnes & Noble
A seminal piece of dystopian fiction. Utterly devastating. I cry every time. 10/10 can’t recommend enough.
The Road (Pulitzer Prize Winner) by Cormac McCarthy, Paperback
To know this book is to love it. Zusak’s work is so special to me.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®
An absolutely wonderful small mystery with an autistic lead. Beloved by many for a reason.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time - by Mark Haddon ...
This was required reading for me in school and I am so glad it was! Mary Shelley cooked she invented science fiction 200 years ago. The lore is equally as good as the book, a true rarity.
Frankenstein - By Mary Shelley (paperback) - Target
My favorite short story collection by probably my favorite author. His most accessible work outside of Catcher in the Rye.
Nine Stories by J. D. Salinger, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®
Certain aspects haven’t aged well, but this is one of the most tragically misunderstood books of all time in my opinion. It’s an emotionally stirring meditation on trauma and grief that I recommend you at least give a try.
The Catcher In The Rye By J.d. Salinger (paperback) - Target
For fans of the Glass family—this one permanently altered my brain chemistry.
Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters and Seymour: An Introduction

Another one of my favorite short story collections! The Pulitzer was well-awarded—Lahiri weaves tapestries with her words.
Interpreter of Maladies (Pulitzer Prize Winner) - Barnes & Noble
I devoured this play. I never would’ve guessed how it ended—especially because the Hays code forced the movie into a different ending!
A Streetcar Named Desire - Target
Another winner of the big prize for a reason. I’m fairly picky about poetry, and this absolutely knocked me on my feet.
Another historically-informed poetry collection! Eve is extremely cool and the illustrations in this book are GORGEOUS.
Electric Arches by Eve L. Ewing, Paperback | Barnes & Noble®
Maybe the deepest cut on this list—this was assigned reading for a college class on 19th-century American lit. It’s about free Blacks in Philadelphia in the 1850s and I’ve been thinking about it for years since. Cannot wait to read this again.
The Garies and Their Friends - Frank J Webb - Barnes & Noble
I have very strong negative feelings about true crime as entertainment. But this originator of the genre offers a fascinating look into our cultural obsession with crime and Capote’s twisted psyche. It’s utterly compelling despite its length.
In Cold Blood - (vintage International) By Truman Capote (paperback)
I was a pretty mild to moderate Beastie Boys fan before reading this and became a very big one in the process.
