My hometown might seem dull to international tourists, but it's definitely worth a visit. In my opinion, it has the best weather and sweets in the country. This list only includes places located in the downtown area.

Classic Highlights
Miyahara (宮原眼科) was originally a Japanese-era ophthalmology clinic built in 1927. It was restored into a dessert palace and souvenir shop.
Miyahara
The historical pavilion on the lake is the city's symbol.
Taichung Park Pavilion
I would say that it is one of the most beautiful stations to have been built during the Japanese colonial period.
Old Taichung Train Station
This is one of the biggest night markets in Taiwan. It's a popular place for tourists, but I wouldn't say the locals come here regularly. But maybe it is just me.
Fengchia Night Market
A few years ago, it was vandalised due to a business dispute or something similar. The government has tried to restore it, but I don't know if the 'new look' retains the original vibe.
Rainbow Village
Everyday Life
In my opinion, it's a bit commercial, but it still has a hipster vibe. However, it is located in my favourite area of Taichung, so I still like it.
Shen Ji New Village
It was previously the Budokan Martial Arts Hall during the Japanese colonial period. In my opinion, it is not a well-known tourist site, even among Taiwanese people. That's why I've put it in this category.
Natural Way Six Arts Cultural Center
It's a pleasant green belt in the city that connects many tourist sites, such as the National Museum of Natural Science and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts. Shen Ji New Village is also nearby.
Calligraphy Greenway
I wouldn't consider this museum a must-see for international visitors. However, it certainly evokes childhood memories for many locals.

The Taichung Prefectural Hall, designed by Moriyama Matsunosuke during the Japanese colonial period, is a government building that is still in use today.

Architecture & Landmark
I would say that the interior is much more impressive than the exterior.
National Taichung Theater
This is probably the most impressive church on one of the most beautiful university campuses.
Luce Memorial Chapel
Pao Chueh Temple is a serene Buddhist temple in Taichung, famous for its massive, 7-story-tall smiling golden Maitreya Buddha statue that dominates the skyline.
Pao Chueh Temple
Although I am a local, I am still amazed by the enormous statue of Guan Gong on top of the temple.
Nantian Temple
The architecture is quite nice. As for the cake, I have no idea.
