I live just east of Banff and Canmore and these are some of my favourite things to do in the area.
I've done two different route of the Via Ferrata at Mount Norquay and loved both of them! The views are amazing and the tour guides are safety conscious.
Via Ferrata - Banff
Often very busy but still so nice and relaxing - especially after a day of skiing.
Banff Upper Hot Springs
We did this tour as a family during Covid and it was amazing. They take pictures for you. Such a fun memory.
Canadian Rockies Rafting: Whitewater River Rafting | Float Tours Banff
During Covid we decided to take some local tours. Our city kids loved this horseback riding tour in Banff. The tour guides shared lots of fun stories about bears.
This is a great hike in every season. In the winter we have watched ice climbers and enjoyed a picnic with hot chocolate. It's a pretty popular hike and can get busy. You can also hike in from Moose Meadows which is less congested.
Hike Johnston Canyon
Not a super difficult hike and the color of the lakes is stunning.
Grassi Lakes Trail
I hired Jillian to take family photos for us in Canmore. They were not cheap but they are the best quality photos we have ever had taken. She was great at directing my boys into poses that looked so natural. I ended up buying so many because they all...
Jillian Faulkner Photography - Calgary
I stop in at this gallery almost every time I am in Banff or Canmore. Such an incredible photographer!! Make sure you have someone tell you the stories behind the photos - it makes them so much more meaningful.
Jeff Walker Gallery
Skip the long line ups at COWS ice cream in Banff. This place in Canmore has way better ice cream and more parking.
Lovely Ice Cream & Treats
If you have your own kayaks (or can rent some) this is a nice place to go. Beautiful views! The lakes are shallow and marshy - so there are lots of birds. We even found a beaver dam.
