This is one of the best things to use to prevent being red the next day. It helps protect your skin from the inside. If you're going to be in the sun all day I would take this along with applying your sunscreen!
(It's not 100% substitution for sunscreen)

BAND-AID® Brand Flexible Fabric Adhesive Bandages

These are perfect to fit inside a first aid kit bag. I poured Hydrogen peroxide in one of them to keep for scrapes. Immediately cleans the wound so I put a bandaid on it.
