Always get SILICONE swim caps! All caps protect your hair, but silicone caps are so much more comfortable. The cap is worn with the seam front to back, not side to side. If you have long hair, there are caps made with that in mind.

A pull buoy keeps your legs afloat with no kicking, allowing you to focus on your arms.
