if you want to immerse yourself in a historical event, books are the way to go. the words will transport
this is one of my favourite novels. i love zelda fitzgerald and i think this book is a perfect interpretation of her life. the narrative clearly loves the subject matter, and i think that's really special.
Z: A Novel of Zelda Fitzgerald
this is a tragic moment in history that is beautifully framed in the story of fictitious surviving family of those lost in a plane crash. it’s for art lovers and those who love human stories.
Visible Empire: A Novel
movies
you cannot go wrong here. the costuming is gorgeous, the story is compelling, and the historical event is monumental. it’s a love story for history more than the love story on board, and i think it’s a wonderful film.
Titanic (1997)
this is one of my FAVORITE films! the costuming is absolutely breathtaking and kirsten dunst gives a truly perfect portrayal of the nuanced and complicated person marie was. the coppola eye is strong here, and the aesthetic is everything.
Marie Antoinette (2006)
this one is for my horror girls and guys — the warrens may not have been up to snuff in real life, but this film really paints an interestingly creepy but wholesome vibe. i love the idea that love conquers evil, and it’s perfectly balanced here.
The Conjuring (2013)
a childhood favorite, but one that really started my love of history! what it lacks in authenticity, it makes up for in passion — feeling like a 1950s musical, the star studded cast breathe new life into the missing Grand Duchess, and they motivated ...
Anastasia (1997)
this will change your life…in the WORST way. it’s boring, overstuffed, nonsensical and will make you hate shakespeare. sure made me hate him.
Shakespeare in Love (1998)
this is better than saturday night and features a lot of the same characters. tongue in cheek, smart, and full of heart — this is for the fan of the offbeat writer in all of us, and one of the most influential comedic voices no one has ever heard of.
A Futile and Stupid Gesture (2018)
while the magicians in the movie itself aren’t real — the origins of modern magic and magicians certainly are. this movie is gritty and lacks whimsy, but the characters are interesting whilst being unlikable.
The Prestige (2006)
this is the WORST historical fiction piece, bar none. the songs are weak, the characters are pathetically one note, and i’m not sure what the moral of the story is here except that….it’s okay to exploit people? bizarre movie.
The Greatest Showman (2017)
series
for my true crime girlies, waco is absolutely incredible. the character work is insane in the best way and truly some poignant moments are played authentically.
Waco (TV Mini Series 2018)
i don’t usually care for true crime, but i think this is pretty good! i think the acting is good, they do a decent job of keeping the story to the facts, and i think it’s a compelling watch.
The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story
this is the BEST season of blackadder and you can quote me on that. what it lacks in historical accuracy when it comes to situations, the costuming is stunning. i rarely see good elizabethan costuming for men but this season has it in spades. and the...
