This is a list of my fiction must-reads! Let me know what you think 😉
I read this yearly. It's genius.
1984 by George Orwell, Paperback
I've still got the copy of this book from my teens. Jo March was my hero!
Little Women (Little Women, #1) by Louisa May Alcott
I wrote this book, so I'm pretty biased. 😁 But if you want to learn how to interview a celebrity and read amusing movie star anecdotes, this is the book for you! 🧡
Ryan is Ready For You Now: Insider's Guide
This books shaped my twenties. It made me realise how worlds could be created and how writing could literally alter your brain chemistry... for the better.
The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
I read this book every other year and always find something new. It's an emotional rollercoaster. Breathtaking.
A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving
Hands down one of the funniest books ever written. I was a trainee journalist once and very much related to the travails of Henry Pratt 😁
Pratt Of The Argus: Henry Pratt by Nobbs
Genius. Absolute genius. There's a reason this book endures. If you love comedic writing this is a must read.
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005)
Beautifully written and constructed. You will want to travel back in time to live this life and experience London this way. As a story told through letter-writing, it’s just wonderful.
84 Charing Cross Road (Virago Modern Classics)
The Handmaid’s Tale is a modern classic and for good reason. I’m always in awe of authors who seem to have supernatural powers - and by that, I mean how they can write something that so closely mirrors real life. Thanks to its dark, dystopian themes,...
The Handmaid's Tale: Iconic Sunday Times Bestseller
I’ve always wondered how someone so young was able to write such a compelling book. She was only 29 when it was published - apparently she wrote her first poem ages just 5! It’s a wonderful snapshot of it’s time and a modern (early nineties) classic.
The Secret History, by Donna Tartt
I could not love this book more! It makes me want to waft around Laurel Canyon, in a kaftan, in 1973!
Daisy Jones and The Six: The must-read bestselling novel : Jenkins Reid, Taylor
This book is all about the journey we go on…the one called life. Don’t be scared of it! It’s a very short (but mighty) book but will leave an impact (and you’ll look clever reading it).
Three Tales from the Life of Knulp
World War II told from a female perspective (that of two sisters). This is being made into a movie and will probably be epic!
The Nightingale, by Kristin Hannah
You wouldn’t think that a book set against the backdrop of the Belgian Congo, in 1959, would be utterly gripping but this tale told by the wife and four daughters of an evangelical Baptist, is honestly life changing.
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
A little bit racy, and a little bit spicy, this is a Hollywood take like no other. I love this author. She’s not literary but she will LITERALLY have you hooked!
Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann
If you don’t fall in love with this book, and all it’s wonderfully flawed, mad, chaotic, beautiful characters, I don’t know if we can be friends.
Brideshead Revisited, by Evelyn Waugh.
Ian Fleming’s first James Bond novel is a wild ride from start to finish. It will leave you - yes, I’m going there! - shaken and well, probably a little stirred. I love spy novels (check out my rec for The Third Man).
Casino Royale: James Bond 007 (James Bond 007, 1)
Go to You Tube and find the music from the movie adaptation, then curl up on the sofa, and enjoy Graham Greene’s classic set in post war Vienna.
The Third Man by M. Graham Greene
The ultimate American classic. If you haven’t read To Kill a Mockingbird, quite simply, you must. Harper Lee created a masterpiece with this book and it needs your eyeballs on it right now. Like, now!
To Kill A Mockingbird: 60th Anniversary Edition : Harper Lee
