This is the exact notebook I use for my journal. The thick pages make it sturdy enough to hold several layers of material, but I still like to glue two pages together. The lay flat spine is also a great feature of this notebook!

For the rare occasion that glue sticks aren’t cutting it, I find that this rubber cement works well! Just make sure you’re in a well ventilated area before using this.

Obviously, most of the decorations I use are reclaimed materials- but I find that having a small stash of pre-purchased items is helpful, especially when I was just starting out!
