Tops

These are some of my everyday farm staples that I wear whether it's spring, fall, or under all my winter layers.

My stepdad works at Cabelas so for Christmas 2024 Jeff and I received one of these each, and I KID YOU NOT - these are the softest and absolute WARMEST hoodies we've ever had.  Normally, we prefer pocketless hoodies - because the hay gets stuck inside the pocket and it follows us everywhere in the house - so after wearing this a time or two we decided to cut off the pockets and officially make these farm sweaters.  BUY ONE TODAY!  ***you will not regret it***

One of my everyday spring/fall/winter layers is a simple hoodie WITHOUT a pocket.  This helps when you're dealing with hay because no matter how hard you try, hay gets stuck in the pocket and ends up everywhere in your house.

Since we deal with hay multiple times a day, and I'm particularly OVER picking it out of my pockets and washer/dryer and all other items of clothing and from the floors - I've learned that pocketless hoodies are better suited for my farm chores attir... Pants pockets seem to catch less hay, but hoodie pockets definitely catch loads of it (so I just prefer cutting them out from old hoodies now retired into farm hoodies, or not having them to begin with)

Simple tshirts ✔️ because if I'm being honest, 75% of the time I have my sweater over whatever tshirt I'm wearing (because hay is itchy!) so it's probably an old loose church VBS shirt or something like that underneath.  I don't BUY many tshirts.

Bottoms

I pretty much only wear 2 types of pants - the everyday jogger, or the mid rise jeans for when I need a bit more protection from the hay.

These are LITERALLY my everyday pants.  Spring/Summer/Fall - even Winter (beneath my coveralls!).  I have at least 4 pairs on hand at all times

Rarely will I choose jeans over my beloved joggers for chores, but generally if we're doing special projects (outside of chores) and/or when it's hay season and we're moving hay because jeans are thicker and you're less likely to get stabbed by it al... But these are my favorite jeans.

I do have a couple of pairs of these travel joggers (mostly non-farm, for when I'm around the house or out of the house) but I do like these to wear UNDER my coveralls for super cold days because they're so thin and comfy!  Also can't beat the price #iLoveSams

Shoes

I love my Keens and just this year got started with the Homesteader boot, so I'm exited to see how long they last (with only using them for extreme rain or snow!)

The only time I don't wear these for chores are when it's SUPER muddy/snowy - then the taller boots get called in.  These are my everyday farm shoe and they've never done me wrong.

I got mine for a STEAL on Black Friday but they're still a decent price at $80!  They remind me of a more rugged and looser fitting Blundstone (my personal favorite non-farm shoe)

This is my 2nd pair of all black Brooks Adrenalines for work (I used to have to be on my feet ALL DAY, but now have a desk job instead but still love the comfort of these shoes and will continue getting them).  ***I never*** do any sort of chores or farm work in these shoes to protect my sanity and always have a clean pair of shoes to leave home in lol

I used to live in these DAILY as a single girl and before the farm was a thing for me.  I still wear them a couple times a month when I'm feeling fancy.  If you've never heard of blundstones… they are AMAZING.  real quality leather, feel like your 2nd skin (well, after wearing them a couple times - let's be reallll) with a warranty against defects in materials and workmanship for the lifetime of the product.  They are pretty pricey, but even so - they're worth every penny!  I've had mine for 5-7 years and they're hardly showing any wear and tear.  If you're not too compatible with a $200 price tag, create your own free Benable list and add a Blundstone gift card or a pair of Chelsea's to your new wish list and share it with everyone you know :)

Cold Weather Farm Capsule Items

Everyone has their own internal temp that requires more layers.  If it's under 60° then I generally have a sweater on to stay warm (unless of course if I just need a long sleeve for working hay), maybe 40-50° to add the coat, but once it gets down to 20-30° is when I have to add the coveralls to the mix.  But your temps might be different!

I'm a little more short and stout than my husband, so I run a bit warmer and would DIE in coveralls, so I opt for the overalls instead.  These are the exact ones I've had for 2+ years and they've  never failed me!  Tuck a simple thermal under the overalls, throw on a coat/hat/gloves and I'm game for anything outside.

This is my coat for when it's 40 degrees or under, and I LOVE it (even though it's a men's coat).  I prefer looser fitting farm clothes, and I am able to layer beneath this because as it starts out cooler or warmer then gradually increase or decreases (depending on if it's morning or evening chores), I like to be able to put it on or take it off e... Hey, sometimes I warm up pretty good when I'm walking buckets of water from hydrant to pen! (confession: I even got the brown/black one for my NON-FARM winter coat 🫣)

These simple thermal undershirts are cheap and are wonderful even for everyday wear around the house under an oversized tshirt, as well as your base layer when heading out for chores.
