🧼 Step 1: Cleanse 🧼

We've all slept in our makeup before and had our skin break out the day after. Cleanse twice a day to keep your skin clean and pores unclogged!
Do you have sunscreen or makeup on your face? Use an oil cleanser before your water-based cleanser (double-cleansing) to break them down before washing away residue

You cant really go wrong with an oil cleanser. Apply them on a DRY face then wash off before using your water-based cleanser. Only necessary when you have used oil-based products that are otherwise hard to get off with just water-based cleanser (e.g....

Things to look out for: After your first cleanse, wipe your face with a tissue to see if there is any residue left. If so, you may need to spend more time washing target areas where makeup resides
ANUA - Heartleaf Pore Control Cleansing Oil

My dermatologist recommended this to me as an affordable, effective cleanser during my struggle with cystic acne. You dont need this exact foam cleanser, but I like it best to get rid of impurities as I find you dont need a lot. Apply on WET skin.

What to look out for: If your skin feels too tight/dry after cleansing, or you suspect you have dry/sensitive skin, you need a gentler one. Check out my Gentle Cleanser recommendation instead!

The GENTLE cleanser option. If you have oily/combination skin I recommend the regular foam cleanser from Ego on my list. If you have dry/sensitive skin, this gentle cleanser is effective and non-irritating as it is less drying! So long as you wash th...

Things to look out for: If you are still seeing blocked pores or are breaking out, you may need a regular cleanser. Check out my Regular Cleanser recommendation instead!

💧 Step 2: Tone 💧

Toning is incredibly useful to prepare the skin to absorb the next steps effectively. Some toners use additional ingredients to also target specific issues, e.g. enlarged pores. For the ones I've listed below, no ingredients clash with any products m...

An AHA/BHA toner combines water and oil soluble acids for a comprehensive exfoliation that smooths skin, unclogs pores, and can be beneficial for acne-prone and sensitive skin. It says to use a cotton pad, but I spray it on and it works fine :)

What to look out for: It should NOT burn/sting if you dont have any open wounds and should NOT leave you feeling dry! If so, check out my HYDRATING toner recommendation!
COSRX - AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner

This toner focuses on HYDRATING and is particularly helpful for dry skin. The added vitamin B also compliments the vitamin C recommendation in Step 4.

What to look out for: If you are breaking out, an AHA/BHA toner may be better for you. Check out my recommendation!

OPTIONAL POST-STEP AFTER TONER: If you have any pimples or marks, cover these with a pimple patch then continue to step 3 and onwards. It's better to not have skincare trapped under the patch as it could irritate your pimple, and it may not even stic...

I recommend this brand because it still sticks well after I apply the rest of my skincare ontop of it! Some just fall right off
COSRX - Acne Pimple Master Patch

💗 Step 3: Nourish 💗

Nourishing your skin can be pretty subjective particularly on skin type and age. I will mention these per product below so be sure to have a look! If you want to keep it simple, vitamin C has made a dramatic difference in my skin (combination, mid-20...

Topical vitamin C is a science-backed, dermatologist-favourite ingredient that may help slow early skin aging, prevent sun damage, and improve the appearance of wrinkles, dark spots, and acne. It is generally recommended to have between 10% - 20% str...

What to look out for: If you see any irritation, space out the mornings you use this (e.g. one on, one off) to build tolerance. If your serum is a dark colour when it has started out light, it is oxidised and should be replaced.

The PINK bottle! After your vitamin C has absorbed, layer this to achieve maximum pore minimisation. This is not a mandatory step, but is effective to balance out the acidity from the vitamin C and give your skin a nice soothing affect

What to look out for: If this does nothing for your skin texture you either may not need it or need more active ingredients. This is different depending on what you're targeting and your skin-type. Leave a comment and I can try help out :)

I use the pore-minimising Ampoule because of my specific acne-prone skin, but if you want a more generic serum to improve general skin health, this is a good option for all skin types!

🌻 Step 4: Moisturise 🌻

You really can't go very wrong with what moisturizer you choose as they all will help to trap moisture. Skin type and personal preference is more important. I've put details of skin-feel and smell to help you make a decision based off of this :)
If you use makeup, you will want to pick the moisturiser base (water or oil) that is the same as your makeup base to prevent caking

My go-to daily moisturiser. Doesnt clog my pores and leaves me feeling refreshed! You can keep this in the fridge for a bigger cooling affect that my skin loves. It is thin-feeling and mildly fragrant.

What to look out for: If your skin still feels dry you might need something more hydrating. Check out my CREAM recommendation!
Round Lab - Birch Juice Moisturizing Soothing Gel

This is my go-to for a deeply hydrating facial moisturiser especially for winter months. If your country hits negative temperatures I can attest to this moisturiser being hydrating enough as it kept my skin nourished in -40C degrees. It is thick-feeling heavy cream and mildy fragrant.

What to look out for: If you're breaking out you may need something less oily/heavy. Check out my GEL recommendation!

OK look I am NOT recommending you use a body/hand lotion as a face moisturiser but I have been pleasantly surprised by Jergens' because I have used it in a pinch over multiple days and it didnt break me out when usually any change in my routine does....

What to look out for: If you start breaking out, stop using this on your face immediately and switch to a face-specific moisturiser. Check out my recommendations!

☀️ Step 5: Protect ☀️

This is the most crucial step against the affects of UV. We dont fear aging but we do want to prevent it prematurely! UV can reach you indoors and on cloudy days so especially if you are using retinol (NIGHT routine TBD that will explain this), dont ...
