I hadn't painted since middle school and figured I'd be terrible. Turns out terrible is actually fun when you're watching colors bleed into each other instead of staring at your phone.

Wine used to be my wind-down ritual until a 1000-piece puzzle ate three consecutive evenings. My husband thought I'd been abducted.

Started because I wanted to make one decent birthday card. Now I have a drawer full of pens and my handwriting went from doctor's scrawl to something people actually compliment.

Poking fabric with a needle sounded boring until I tried it at 10pm on a Tuesday. The repetition is hypnotic — my brain finally shut up for once.

Drawing felt intimidating until I stopped trying to be good and started doing it for the focus. Turns out a pencil and twenty minutes of concentration hits different than a glass of merlot.

Building a tiny ship at my kitchen table for four hours straight was the first time in years I didn't check the clock. My partner walked in confused. I didn't even notice.

Bought clay on a whim after binge-watching a pottery show. Made a lopsided bowl. Loved every minute. Now my shelf has six lopsided bowls and I regret nothing.

Needed something to do with my hands that wasn't reaching for a glass. Crochet gave me that — plus now everyone gets handmade scarves whether they want them or not.

Pouring thoughts onto paper at night replaced the habit of pouring wine into a glass. Sounds cheesy. Don't care. It worked and my mornings improved dramatically.

Laughed at diamond painting until a friend handed me one. Four hours later I looked up and my tea was ice cold. The repetitive placing of tiny gems is basically meditation with sparkle.

Melting wax and mixing scents turned into my favorite Friday night activity. Cheaper than buying fancy candles, more absorbing than scrolling, and my apartment smells incredible now.
