We used to just talk about work for three hours straight. Now someone throws down a card and suddenly everyone's screaming and laughing so hard the neighbors probably hate us.

Every group has that one person who thinks she knows everything. These finally gave the rest of us a chance to knock her off her throne — and the trash talk was legendary.

I cannot draw a straight line and neither can most of my friends. But we needed something to do with our hands besides reach for the cheese board, and these delivered without anyone crying over a failed project.

Ironically the wine didn't disappear — we just stopped mindlessly sipping and started actually making drinks together. Turns out being a terrible bartender is its own form of entertainment.

Half my friends zone out if a game takes longer than ten minutes to explain. These have simple rules but somehow we ended up playing until 1 AM arguing about strategy.

Phones came out but for once nobody was scrolling — they were posing with ridiculous props and taking group photos we actually printed and framed afterward.

Nobody wanted to sing first. Then someone grabbed the mic after one margarita and belted Shania Twain so badly that everyone else felt confident enough to follow.

Sometimes the group needs to decompress, not compete. On those nights we skip the games and pamper ourselves while talking about everything and nothing — best conversations happen with a face mask on.

Not every night needs to be loud. Sometimes we work on something together quietly with music playing and it's the most connected I've felt with my friends in years.

When the weather cooperates, we move everything outside and the competitive energy triples. Something about fresh air makes everyone bolder and louder and honestly more fun.

Between the loud games, we started pulling out question cards and the conversations went places we'd never gone in fifteen years of friendship. Turns out we didn't know each other as well as we thought.

I stopped just putting out chips and started making the food part of the activity. Now everyone gathers around the table first and the night starts with building something together instead of awkward hellos.
