After spending 4 years living at college, I’ve learned what items are necessary (and a bit unnecessary) to bring to school with you. These products saved me and helped tremendously my first couple years.
I usually kept my bed higher up to create more space for storage under my bed. It tended to get a little messy under there, and adding a bed skirt not only made my dorm feel more homey but also allowed me to conceal my mess.

The bright, LED overhead lights they put in dorms make them feel like a jail cell. Putting a lamp in my room was a game changer, it’s perfect for reading at night or if you prefer more dim lighting.

A shower caddy is NECESSARY, especially if you’re using communal showers freshman year. I recommend a plastic one over a mesh one.

Crocs make for the perfect shower shoes! I recommend going in-person to a Croc store to get a better feel of all the colors and options they have to offer.

If you’re a makeup girly like me, getting a mirror with lights is a must! The lighting in dorm rooms isn’t always the best, so purchasing a mirror with lights is very helpful. This one is perfect!

Dorm rooms can be HOT during the first month! Getting a cheap standing fan does the job and will keep you cool throughout the day and night.

I got sick A LOT during my first years in college… come to find out the vents hadn’t been cleaned and there was mold growing. I bought an air purifier and it was the best investment! I never got sick and woke up feeling refreshed daily.

I purchased a digital camera my junior year and wish I bought one sooner! The pictures are great quality and I can transfer them to my phone super easy! I have the Kodak fz55 but you can get many others for the same quality and at a reasonable price.

Headphones are a great purchase for school! I own Airpods and Beats and use them both equally. They are great when you need a boost of music when walking to class, or if you decide to hit the gym every once and awhile.

A water bottle is very necessary when attending school! I take mine everywhere with me, from class to the gym to the food court on campus. I personally use products from the Stanley brand and my water stays cold for hours. Hydration is key!
