Hiking out to Bar Island in Bar Harbor is an absolute must…if you can time it right. You can only do it at low tide when the sand bar is visible or you will be stranded on the island until low tide comes back around.

Fort Knox is an amazing place to wander and discover. Great for learning some of Maine’s history and for physical activity. Bonus- leashed dogs are allowed in the fort, not the observatory.

So much fun the kids won’t even know that they are learning. No, that’s a lie. They will know but it is definitely fun learning. Make sure you bring quarters to buy food to feed the bears through a chute. It is an experience all on its own.
