Sao Miguel Island is a tiny Island of Portugal within the Azores. My husband’s family is from here and we visited a couple years ago and cannot wait to return!

We loved staying here. Our room had the perfect ocean view, you can keep your slider doors open, relax on the balcony, head to the pool or snag a spot on the terrace for coffee and food. I cannot wait to go back.

If you go to Sao Miguel, you cannot skip out on the Frunas aka the Thermal Hot Spot. The most delicious food is cooked, ready?… in the ground with the heat. Be prepared for an interesting smell but you’ll be distracted by the beauty of it all to care...

No words or photos can truly give an accurate description of how beautiful this place was. Bath in the natural hot pools and/or walk through the tropical paths. We spent hours here.

Casa do Abel
Take a hike. Literally. You can also drive up and walk a little, do a guided tour or just enjoy a quick view. Viewing these two lakes from the top of a mountain was breathtaking.
