Anyone can enjoy the Hobbit.  My son read it in his early teens, as did I.  It is short enough and simple enough for youngsters, and I have re-read as an adult and loved it just as much!
The Hobbit : Tolkien, J. R. R.

All of the moomin books are wonderful, and suitable for all ages.  My son read them all at around 10 or 11 years of age and loved them.  Adventurous, wholesome and with just the slightest bit of creepiness to givve a thrill to children.
