Sand Paper
I use this 220 grit to provide some "tooth" to my projects so that the paint adheres better then I move up in grits to 320, 400 to get smoother surfaces when I apply stain.

To protect clothes and my skin, I always wear coveralls when spraying paint on furniture.

Denatured alcohol and steel wool 000 does wonderfully to remove old varnish on some furniture pieces. Also used mixed with water to wipe down pieces after sanding.

I wear heavier rubber gloves when cleaning furniture. When sanding, I'll use nitrile gloves so that I don't get any hand oils on my furniture and also to protect my skin.

I use both canvas and/or plastic underneath my furniture when refinishing a piece to protect my floor or table that I set the piece on.

ALWAYS put an extraction fan in your area when spraying!!!
Paint Booth Exhaust Fan
These should be used behind your extraction fan to catch paint particles. I use to triple them up. I'd also place one opposite the side of my fan in my booth. My suggestion is to research "How to build or buy a SAFE paint booth".

I use this to cover up furniture if I'm staining the top. I'll tape this over the body to protect it. I also use this to cover pieces to protect and keep clean while sitting.
Plastic Sheeting - The Home Depot
Light adhesion tape when you don't want it lifting your finish. Do not apply any tape over freshly painted or stained pieces.

Paint Sprayers
This is the paint sprayer that I've used that is more of a professional sprayer. It's not top of the line as you can get but it does an amazing job. I used this to refinish kitchen cabinets and furniture.
