Dystopian

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book. It has stayed with me for years. This bookstagram/booktok sensation deserves all the hype in my opinion. You immediately transported into a different world and then brought along for the journey. Whilst yes, it is sad, i...

Did I like this book? I don’t know. Would I recommend this book? I don’t know. Do I think about this book a lot yes.
Tender Is the Flesh

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Weird, Asian dystopian short stories that had me in tears. This book definitely deserves more coverage. But, it’s definitely not for everyone.
How High We Go in the Dark: A Novel

I think it’s safe to say if you don’t like one of Murata’s books, you probably aren’t gonna like the others. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. You immediately transported for a while with different norms and values, and you get to explore it. It’s a gre...
Life Ceremony: Stories

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ One of the best, if not, the best dystopian novels I’ve read. Dark, thought provoking and extremely well written. If you enjoy dystopian novels and you’ve not read this one you are missing out.
Parable of the Sower

Fantasy

Member of the Wolfpack. If you’re a fantasy/sci-fi reader that loves a seven book series this is 100% for you. This gets a lot of coverage by male booktokers but my opinion, it’s one for the girls too!
Red Rising

Like Succession but with magic. I wouldn’t rush to recommend. But a fun, easy, close to reality, fantasy.
Gifted & Talented

Absolutely LOVED the magic system in this super intelligent fantasy odyssey!
Babel: Necessity of Violence - Arcane History

Unlikable Female Leads

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Loved this short story. R F Kuang is wickedly smart. She makes no attempt to hide it and leans into it, and nor should she!
Yellowface (Reese's Book Club Pick) by R. F. Kuang, Paperback

It is hard to know which section to put this book in. It is both a weird dystopian story and has a unlikable female lead. Like all Murata’s writing, I was left wondering what I had just read. Thoroughly recommend, if yours in to that kind of thing.
Vanishing World

I’m not sure if it’s into dystopian or unlikable female characters. I enjoyed this quick foray into an alternate world.

Sci-fi

Super interesting premise, not written as well as it could have been but still worth the read if you like sci fi.

Exhalation: Stories

10 out of 5! If you read sci-fi and haven’t read the expanse, what are you even doing?!? The first books follow the TV series almost identically, but I still read them and love them. After book 5, they start to diverge.

Book Club

My short lived nature, grief and more bookclub. I made add more that I think would be a good fit for the future.

I loved this book of poetry/short stories. They were moving, thought provoking and grounded in shared human experiences despite being so specific to the author. The book progresses chronologically through the author’s family history, with stories of ...
Late Migrations: A Natural History of Love and Loss|Paperback

This book is a deep dive into the philosophy, and science of whether animals can’t understand death in their experiences of it. I couldn’t finish it. It was far too heavy and red like an academic journal. But if that’s what you’re looking for maybe t...

4 Stars - woof this is one hell of a read (and a fantastic audiobook). It's not for the faint of heart but it is an amazing dystopian take on the prison system. It's violent, emotional, and very creative.
