⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A favorite. Slightly removed from the busiest areas but still easily walkable, this hotel feels intimate and intentional. The rooms were very comfortable, breakfast and happy hour were excellent, and I loved the limited number of rooms. The out...

Did not stay, but visited. A beautiful hotel located at the end of King Street’s shopping corridor. While lovely, it’s not quite in the center of the historic area. Still a great option for those wanting luxury paired with shopping.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best meal of the trip. A Very Krug Christmas tasting dinner was exquisite and joyful. From beautiful small bites paired with a carrot cocktail, to a caviar bump with Japanese vodka, halibut paired with Krug Grande Cuvée 171, and an add-on Beef ...

Coconut cake stop. The coconut cake is famous and was good, but nothing compares to the coconut cake at the Halekulani in Hawaii. Still worth trying if you love coconut desserts.

Cocktails only (for now). Drinking cocktails in an old church felt delightfully naughty. I loved the excerpts from The Art of War on the ceiling—unexpected and intriguing. A beautiful space. Next time, we’ll try the food.

We enjoyed the pimento cheese, country ham with biscuits, scallops, and cornbread. Everything was well prepared, but compared to the other dinners we had in Charleston, this ranked last.

Breakfast favorite. We split the biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and fried chicken. Delicious, filling, and extremely satisfying.

Lunch stop. Our first She-Crab Soup—and it was excellent. We wisely split a cup. The Southern Tomato Pie was flavorful and very filling.

Second-favorite dinner of the trip. The broiled oysters were so good we ordered a second round. The ricotta gnocchi with lamb bolognese was rich and comforting, though we wished for a bit more lamb. The chocolate budino was a perfect finish.

Quick lunch. The gingerbread martini was excellent. The sandwich (The CBB) was mediocre. Worth stopping for a cocktail, but manage expectations for the food.

Bus tour It was freezing our first day, and this was a perfect way to see the city comfortably. We explored areas we likely wouldn’t have seen otherwise, including the Citadel campus and Hampton Park.

Carriage ride Our guide was excellent, and we later met the owners at happy hour—wonderful people. Interesting fact: carriage routes are assigned by a city lottery system, so drivers don’t know the route until just before departure. I didn’t love our...
