Fiction
The best way I can describe this book is “back-to-school thriller.” Set in a small college in New England, this book follows a student who falls in with the wrong crowd of rich kids in his Classical Languages class.
The Secret History
This is a family saga told from a child’s perspective - I read this for the first time last year and think it makes for a great cozy read.
The Dutch House: A Novel
This is a longtime favorite historical fiction pick of mine about two women born centuries apart who share a family connection.
The Virgin Blue: A Novel
Memoir
I picked this up at a bookstore in Lake Placid a few years ago and finished it in two days. It's a great memoir with themes on personal growth and the different meanings -and importance - education can have in your life.
Educated: A Memoir
Frank McCourt recounts his teaching career in New York City. My mom was a long-time high school teacher in Brooklyn, and she recommended this one to me when I was young - I still reread it to this day.
Teacher Man: A Memoir
Short Stories
This is one of my favorite collections by Truman Capote, great for taking along with you on a fall walk to a coffee shop or the park. The recounting of a conversation he had with Marilyn Monroe is awesome.
Music for Chameleons
A great collection of short stories that I tend to come back to when the weather gets colder.
