I bought this instead of a glass palette for painting--it's cheaper and does the same thing. Just tape a white foam core or canvas board on the bottom. Glass is a great surface for oil paints--easy to mix on and easy to clean off.

I use this for acrylic paints--it has a thin sponge that you dampen with water, then use the paper to put on top of the sponge. The paper stays damp which keeps the paint from drying out. I'll use a spray water to mist the top of the paints as well.
