Overall experience
Even though the city was absolutely full of tourists (went in September 2024) I had no problem exploring it. I was there for a very limited time, only 2.5 days, and we would spend the whole day walking (be prepared to climb many steps). If you have m...

My Itinerary
All the spots are in the order I visited them.
This is like a flea market. It’s open every Sunday from 7am till 2pm. There’s absolutely anything here: authentic leather bags, shoes and jackets, books, silver and gold jewelry, clothing, souvenirs, posters... Everything was quite cheap too. I got 3...
Porta Portese Market
If you take a walk through Trastevere or to the Janiculum Hill don’t forget about this little secret. A small temple built by one of the greatest architects of the renaissance, Donato Bramante, to mark the location of the crucifixion of St Peter. Eve...
Tempietto del Bramante
Go to the Giuseppe Garibaldi Monument to get a great panoramic view of the city. Beneath you have a Botanical garden with a Butterfly house you can visit. If you are already on this side of the river I recommend taking a walk through the Trastevere n...
Janiculum (Gianicolo) Hill
It was first built during the Roman Empire as a mausoleum for the emperor Hadrian. We bought the entrance tickets online so we wouldn’t have to wait in line but honestly it wasn’t that crowded. The regular ticket was 17€ but if you are an EU citizen ...
Castel Sant'Angelo
Everyone knows about this one of course but here are a couple of interesting facts. It was actually built on the site of an earlier temple and after the original burnt down, the present building was ordered by the emperor Hadrian. It also serves as a... When visiting the Pantheon I also suggest going to the Piazza Navona. Near it you can also get tiramisù at Two Sizes (it’s famous on tik tok but the tiramisu is actually quite good and reasonably priced, even though the line was reallyyy long we wait...
Pantheon
If you want to visit an art gallery that's not too busy I recommend going here. It took me like 2.5 hours to see everything, no jokes (i love art). At the entrance you can get an audio guide device (I suggest taking it, the stories are short but inte...
Doria Pamphilj Gallery
Cute location for taking pics! It's really close to the other monuments (only 3 minutes from the Trevi fountain) so you can stop by for a quick photoshoot whenever!
Galleria Alberto Sordi
Cute location for taking pics! It's really close to the other monuments (only 3 minutes from the Trevi fountain) so you can stop by for a quick photoshoot whenever!
Galleria Sciarra - Rome's Hidden Art Nouveau Courtyard
Another famous location! I suggest going there to watch the sunset. At the bottom of the steps it looked a bit crowded (I went at 6.30pm) but once you climb to the top you'll easily find a spot to enjoy the sunset!
Spanish Steps
I think there’s no person who doesn’t know about it! Went there around 9pm and it was CROWDED. Still I managed to find a spot to sit and snap a few pics. Now they’ve established a new policy though. They’ve capped the number of visitors at 400 at a t...
Trevi Fountain
An ancient Roman chariot-racing stadium and mass entertainment venue in Rome. I recommend starting your tour in the morning from this place. Then go to the Palatine Hill (there's a good Colosseum viewpoint there), then walk around the Roman Forum, th...
Circus Maximus + Palatine Hill
With one ticket we were able to visit the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill open-air museum. It costs 18€ but if you are an EU citizen aged 18-25 you’ll only pay 2€. You can buy it online (i suggest you do this because then it takes yo...
Roman Forum
One of the most famous buildings ever built! Even though it may seem a bit crowded you should still enter it and take a look at the exhibition. Took us like an hour to see everything. To find out more about the tickets read my Roman Forum” post. I al...
Colosseum
Just wow. It’s so much bigger in person! If you want a 360 panoramic view of the city, you must go to the rooftop! Once you climb the Altar go to the backside (just follow the signs to the terrace) and there you’ll find an elevator. Next to it is the...
Altare della Patria
A square designed by the famous Michelangelo! In the center is an Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius, right behind it is the Senatorial Palace and on each side there’s a museum. I recommend you visit them. I, unfortunately, didn’t have time for tha...
Piazza del Campidoglio + Capitoline Hill
It’s quite smaller than the Colosseum but it’s actually older. It was built by Caesar. Not a must see if you are short on time, but it’s quite close to the Altar of the Fatherland and the Capitoline Hill.
Theatre of Marcellus
You may have heard of this hidden gem because of the view of the dome of St. Peter's Church! You can also see the Altar of the Fatherland, the Tiber River... It’s truly an incredible viewpoint. It’s the perfect place to watch the sunset! Near it is a...
Giardino degli Aranci
I guess it’s kind of a hidden gem. This is a small peaceful street, a great spot to take pics.
Via Margutta
A famous square in Rome! When you turn your back to Porta del Popolo (the gate) you’ll see two small churches and three streets. The one on the left is filled with designer stores and if you go down the middle street you’ll find normal shops. *Terrazza del Pincio* From the Piazza del Popolo I suggest climbing to this terrace. The view is great! Then you can continue your walk through the Villa Borghese.
Piazza del Popolo
I’ve never seen grass this green! This park is absolutely amazing and it’s huge! A true heaven on earth. The entrance is free of course. I recommend going to the little lake and renting a boat (it’s 5€ per person for 20 minutes). So sad we didn’t hav...
