Jone's Plantation is an amazing film. It has some issues with an overly affected Southern accent or two, and some seemingly anachronistic language, but what is important is the message that the film conveys. It is a message about the very nature of humanity. The film opens with Mr. Jones who has a problem. His slaves are getting uppity, and rumors of uprisings are surging. His solution, to call in Mr. Smith at the recommendation of his good friend. The solution? Free the slaves and institute a corporation. An enterprise. You work for us, and we…we let you keep some of the money. Sound familiar? This perfect microcosm of modern government is an amazing analysis of where we are today. And believe me, it isn't freedom. It offers striking parallels, and despite fourth wall breaks, which are hilarious, it's compelling, so much so that I want YOU to see it. Right now, as of 1/8/2026, it's free on Tubi!
