Bali has so many beautiful beaches, but they're all completely different. Some are perfect for swimming, some are better for surfing, and others are where I'd go just to watch the sunset. I put this list together by region to make planning easier, wi...

🌴 South Bali

Home to Bali's most famous beaches, dramatic limestone cliffs, beach clubs, and some of the island's best sunsets. Whether you're looking for calm water, surfing, or somewhere to spend the whole afternoon, you'll probably find it here.

One of my favourite beaches if I want beautiful scenery without having to hike down hundreds of stairs. The drive through the limestone cliffs is honestly part of the experience. The water is usually calm enough for swimming, and there are plenty of ...

Getting here is part of the adventure. You'll walk down narrow stairs through a limestone cave before the beach opens up in front of you. It's famous with surfers because it's the entrance to the Uluwatu surf break, but even if you don't surf, it's w...

Yes, this is the beach from Eat Pray Love, so it gets busy. The beach itself is quite small, but the soft sand and clear water make it easy to see why it's so popular. If you're visiting during peak season, I'd try to come earlier in the day before t...

Definitely one for people who don't mind a workout. You'll need to walk down around 300 steps, but that's exactly why it stays much quieter than most beaches in the south. If you visit at low tide, you'll see the green-covered rocks that gave the bea...

If you're looking for a quieter beach away from the crowds, this is one I'd definitely recommend. Gunung Payung feels much more peaceful than many of the popular beaches in South Bali, mainly because it doesn't have rows of beach clubs or busy cafés....

This is one of those beaches that still feels wild and untouched. The walk down is a bit of a workout, but that's also why it never feels as crowded as many other beaches in the south. The beach is incredibly long, so even on a busy day you can usual...

🌊 East Bali

If you prefer quieter beaches and don't mind driving a little further, East Bali is absolutely worth it. Expect beautiful snorkeling spots, black volcanic sand, hidden white-sand beaches, and a much slower pace.

If someone asked me where to find one of the prettiest white-sand beaches in East Bali, Virgin Beach would be near the top of my list. The water is usually clear and calm enough for swimming, making it a nice change from some of Bali's stronger surf ...

It still feels much less developed than the popular beaches in the south, which is part of its charm. Along the beach you'll find simple local warungs serving freshly grilled seafood, cold drinks, and affordable sun loungers if you want to spend the ...

Blue Lagoon is one of the easiest places in Bali to snorkel straight from the beach. The bay is small and sheltered, so the water is often calm and incredibly clear, making it easy to spot colourful fish and healthy coral without needing a boat trip....

I'd recommend coming in the morning when the visibility is usually at its best. Even if you don't snorkel, it's still a lovely beach to relax for a few hours thanks to the clear water and beautiful cliffs surrounding the bay.

Keramas is best known for its powerful surf, so it's a favourite among experienced surfers rather than beginners. Even if surfing isn't your thing, I still think it's worth visiting because watching the waves here is impressive on its own. Komune Bea...

The black volcanic sand gives the beach a completely different look compared to South Bali's white-sand beaches, and if you're lucky, you might even catch one of the night surfing sessions that Keramas is famous for.

🌅 West Bali

This coastline has some of Bali's busiest beaches. They're perfect if you like sunset drinks, surfing, beach clubs, cafés, and being close to restaurants and shopping.

If you're only visiting Canggu once, I'd probably tell you to start here. Batu Bolong is the heart of Canggu and has a fun, lively atmosphere from morning until sunset. It's one of the best beaches for beginner surfers thanks to the gentle waves and ...

If your idea of a beach day includes beach clubs, music, and watching the sunset with a cocktail in hand, Berawa is probably the place you're looking for. It's home to two of Bali's biggest beach clubs—FINNS Beach Club and Atlas Beach Fest—so there's...

I especially like Berawa around sunset when the whole area starts to come alive. Even if you don't plan to visit a beach club, it's still worth walking along the beach to watch the surfers and enjoy one of Bali's famous sunsets.

I like that Pererenan still feels local despite becoming more popular over the last few years. If Batu Bolong feels a little too busy for you, this is a great alternative that's close enough to enjoy everything Canggu has to offer.

You'll find stylish cafés, boutique shopping, luxury resorts, and some of Bali's most famous beach clubs like Potato Head and Ku De Ta just steps from the sand.

Sunset is easily the busiest time of day, and for good reason—the sky here can be absolutely beautiful. If you're looking for a beach that's close to great restaurants and nightlife without feeling as hectic as Kuta, Seminyak is a really good choice.

Legian sits right between Seminyak and Kuta, so it gives you a little bit of both. It has a long sandy beach that's popular with beginner surfers, but it usually feels a little less crowded than Kuta.

You'll find plenty of beach umbrellas and sun loungers available to rent, making it a comfortable place if your plan is simply to relax for a few hours.

I also like that there are lots of small cafés and local restaurants nearby, so it's easy to stop for lunch without leaving the beach area. If Kuta feels a little too busy but you still want the convenience of staying close to everything, Legian is a...

🌄 North Bali

North Bali feels completely different from the south. The beaches are quieter, the pace is slower, and it's one of the best places to see dolphins, enjoy peaceful mornings, and experience a different side of the island.

Curated by Nay profile picture
If seeing wild dolphins at sunrise is on your Bali bucket list, Lovina is the beach to visit. Unlike the busy beaches in the south, Lovina is known for its calm sea, peaceful atmosphere, and traditional wooden fishing boats lining the shoreline.

Most visitors wake up before sunrise to join a local boat tour and watch dolphins swimming freely in the ocean, and it's honestly one of the most memorable experiences you can have in North Bali. The tours usually cost around IDR 100,000–250,000 per ...

After sunrise, the beach slows down again, making it a lovely place to enjoy breakfast at one of the small cafés nearby or simply relax by the water. If you're looking for surfing or beach clubs, this isn't the right beach—but if you want a slower, m...
