I've found that you don't need more than this 48 pack of colored pencils to get started. I love this brand. They are a bit pricier than some other brands on Amazon but that's because they are a great brand to use.
Prismacolor Premier Colored Pencils, 48 Ct
This rollup organizer for colored pencils will accomodate the colored pencils I linked perfectly as it holds the exact number of colored pencils that comes with the pencils.

If you need more slots than 48 then I recommend getting a pencil organizer like this one!

These pencil erasers are great for lightening up spots you've colored to give a hint of highlights.

You may want to invest in a watercolor set for making washy backgrounds of your colored pages. Remember, not all paper will hold watercolor, so you'll want to take that into consideration when you're using this medium.
