I’ve given birth 3 times and these are all of the items that I found most helpful or necessary to bring with me each time. I’ve included pillows, blankets, phone chargers, slippers, candy and more!
Having your own pillows and blankets at the hospital are a MUST! It gives you some of your comforts from your own home.
Bed Pillows - Target
This is the blanket that I brought with me to the hospital. It’s super soft and slightly weighted. It’s my favorite blanket I own!

I loved having my own bath towels. The hospital towels just don’t cut it. They’re small and scratchy.

You’ll want an extra long phone charger, just in case the outlets aren’t close by.

Don’t forget to bring your hair brush and your other toiletry items. This one is my favorite, if you’re looking for a good hairbrush!
If you’re having a natural delivery, you can bring some sugar free candies to suck on. It will be that and ice chips until your little one arrives!

Hospital rooms can get really dry. Make sure you bring your favorite chapstick.

You’ll want a super comfortable going home outfit for yourself. You’re going to be swollen, sore and your stomach is still going to look like you’re pregnant. Get something a size larger than your normal size.

Make sure you bring a blow dryer or any styling tools. Some hospitals have them, but I like to use my own. I have super thick hair and only certain kinds dry my hair properly.

I brought my makeup bag with me, because I wanted to feel a little bit more like myself while I was in the hospital. I had 3 csections, so I was always in the hospital for 3 days each time.

I included this is the postpartum recommendations list also. Grab yourself a cheap pair to throw in your hospital bag. There’s a good chance you are throwing them away when you are done.
Women's Slippers
Make sure to bring your own shampoo, conditioner and body wash. After sitting in the hospital bed, laboring or after surgery, you’re going to feel gross and want to freshen up. I always liked to have as many comforts from home as possible.

Make sure you throw your birth plan and all of your important documents in your hospital bag. A birth plan is optional, but you’ll need your driver’s license and insurance information. Pack them ahead of time, so that you don’t forget them.
