Lived in Philly 98% of my life. People always talk about Sabrina's, Parc, Angelo's, Kalaya, which are all great, but I wanted to share some that are consistently good and not as talked about.
Not as accessible as center city, but I love the whiz and the way they do strips of meat rather than all chopped up.
Steve's Prince of Steaks
Suuuuch good, hole in the wall, Indonesian good. I love the beef rendang, fritters, and potatoes. Super small space but everything is so good and cheap eats.
Hardena
Brunch!!! Silk Cakes are the best pancakes. Bacon cooked into it, always crisp but soft. That maple syrup with the butter is like crack. Their specials and bake goods always hit too.
Silk City
Food truck. Only open Tuesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays (check their insta). Such good birria tacos though.
MI PUEBLITO TACOS🚚 (@pueblitotruck)
Ok, I know this is a chain but they make their pasta fresh and the center city location SPECIFICALLY (bc I’ve tried KOP and Cherry Hill locations) make their Rigatoni D SO DANG GOOD. Any chance I get, I make a push to cater that Rigatoni D.
Maggiano's Little Italy
Used to be Artic Scoop - still same flavors. Pandan ice cream is all I have to say.

This might be due to my nostalgia for this place but the hand drawn noodles are so good. My go to are the hand drawn noodles with pork sauce but their brothy ones with the shaved noodles are really good too. Cash only!
Nan Zhou Hand Drawn Noodle House
Everyone comes to Philly and thinks cheesesteaks but a classic roast pork is just as good! Just a different kind of good. They have a south Philly and Reading Terminal location. The bread is just gooood in the city, okay? And if you have in person ju...
Tommy DiNic’s
Located in Reading Terminal. Another area where people might visit and pick cheesesteaks instead, but the Trainwreck from here and the Mac and cheese are my go tos. Soooo good, hearty, and filling.
Beck's Cajun Cafe
Tried and true, old school banh mi. Best bang for your buck in the city. Everything hits.
Food truck! Cap’n Crunch salmon over rice or as a taco. I don't know what's in that sauce but it's daaaamn good. Any time I get a chance to stop by, I will!!!!
Cucina Zapata | Philadelphia PA
Probably not as underrated but worth flagging as a cheesesteak alternative. The Indian cheesesteak here is totally worth a stop.
Little Sicily Pizza 2
Out of the city but my fav tomato pie.
Corropolese Italian Bakery & Deli
WHO KNEW HUMMUS COULD BE THIS DANG GOOOOOD?! From the same owners as Zahav and Laser Wolf. If you can’t get in there, try this place out for a taste.
Dizengoff
Everyone knows about Talula’s Garden, but there’s also Talula’s Daily which is a casual stop in market/cafe by day that also doubles as their secret supper club by night. It's an uber small space that serves a prix fix menu if you can snag a reservat...
