Best books I’ve read in the horror/dystopian genre. Avid believer in not reading the back till you finish reading. Trust me, go in blind!

Incredible. Not for the faint of heart. A wild ride that leaves you unable to put this book down. An ending that’ll leave you pondering in silence.
Tender Is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica
A wild ride that’s completely unexpected. I will always recommend this book. Keeps you guessing with every page.
Intercepts by T.J. Payne
A classic but truly a great read. I’ve read many Steven King books and this one is truly one of his best. Perfect for a book/movie group read and watch.
Misery by Stephen King
Wow. A great story that reflects on human nature and what it means to be human. I’ve seen some people not rate this high but if you’re someone who doesn’t need everything to be wrapped up and explained you’ll enjoy this.
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
Subtly creepy tale that I went into blind. Borrowed this book from a friend and didn’t expect to not be able to put it down. Another not so straightforward horror/thriller tale.
This Thing Between Us by Gus Moreno
WOW. This is a great quick read to get you out of any reading slump. It’s only a couple pages long but this story will stick with you for years to come.
The Yellow Wall-Paper
Has so many subtly creepy scenes that truly gave me a scare. If you’ve seen the movie please erase it from your mind and read the book instead. I was so excited to see this rendition but they took out everything that made this book so good!
Review: The Watchers by A.M. Shine
There’s a reason they keep trying to make this work as a tv show. This book is huge but it will not take you long to read. I was so wrapped up in this story I didn’t know what to do with myself when I finished it.
The Stand
If you weren’t required to read this in school you were let down. A must read with themes that still ring true.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding
Another classic that gets slept on! This should be seen on more recommended lists.
The Bad Seed (P.S.): March, William
Leans more into thriller but including because it’s fantastic.
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
One of the best books ever written in my opinion.
Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis
This one is a little slept on. Read this when cellphones were first becoming common and it hit a little harder. I still think about one scene in this book to this day. 😭
Cell: A Novel: King, Stephen - Books
Another good one to get you out of a reading slump because it’s a collection of short stories! The first story had my jaw dropped. A good warmup to her other book featured in this list!
Nineteen Claws and a Black Bird: Stories
Most people have read this one and there’s a reason for that!
Fahrenheit 451: Ray Bradbury: 9781451673319
Read 👏🏻 the 👏🏻 book 👏🏻
Most people overlook the book because of the movie. The story has a deeper message that is lost in translation.
A Clockwork Orange: Burgess, Anthony
This was such a cool venture. Especially if you find the ocean scary.
